You’ve just decided to nix the barbie doll or kitty cat ensemble for Halloween this year. You’re up for some gore. Some guts. The opportunity to look in the mirror and actually scare yourself. This time on purpose…

Whether vampire, or zombie, or even a dead beauty queen, you could use some blood to enhance this costume. And we’ve got just the recipe.

That’s right, DIY gore. Don’t waste your dimes on a pint of too-red blood from Amazon Prime. Just hit up Price Chopper for the essential ingredients.

After scouring Pinterest, we’ve got it down to a delicious science.

What you’ll need:

  • Light Corn Syrup
  • Red Food Coloring
  • Cocoa Powder

Pour the corn syrup into a bowl, add a few sparing drops of food coloring, and a teaspoon of cocoa powder. Mix it up and watch the blood come to life. Or death.

Additional tip: Pour the mixture onto a pan to let it spread. Then, you’ll have the perfect surface for making handprints out of the blood. Mature finger painting, if you will! The corn syrup is cohesive enough to stick to any clothing/ skin and washed off easily with water!

Just look how great ours turned out!
