The Top Five Foods You Need in Your Dorm Room

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Colby chapter.

If you’re a first-year in college, being on campus is a very different and new thing for you. New people, so many things are happening all at once all the time, new environment, new life. The whole point of back-to-school shopping and decorating is to get things that will make your transition easier and that will make your new home feel comfortable. This is very important in order to feel comfortable at school. Personally, making sure all my favorite snacks are always at hand was and still is a priority. There are just some foods that everyone needs in their dorm room, and here’s why:

Easy Mac & Cheese: Not only is it cheesy and delicious, but it’s also very easy and convenient. You won’t regret having a few bowls of Easy Mac in your drawer when it’s 11 p.m., you’re studying for a test, all of the dining halls are closed, and you have no intention of spending more money at the Spa.

Quick oatmeal/cereal: A very healthy and simple choice. It’s very convenient when you have a 9 a.m. class and don’t feel like waking up any earlier than you have to in order to have a good breakfast.

Candy: Pretty self-explanatory. Candy makes everyone happy :)

Chips: Always have family sized bags or small to-go bags of chips in your dorm room. They come in handy between classes or while you’re studying and craving something yummy and easy!

Cookies: It is VERY important to treat yourself every once in a while. I always keep Oreos or Chips Ahoy in a special space in my room. You are in charge of keeping yourself happy. What better way to do that from time-to-time than with food?

Extra things you might want in your room: disposable bowls, forks, spoons, and napkins will definitely come in handy if you decide to have microwavable food or cereal. Washing a dish at 12am is not something you’ll want to do all the time. Happy nomming!
