Seven Quick and Easy Things Off Netflix to Watch This Holiday Season to Distract Yourself

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CNU chapter.

Here’s a small list of easy and carefree shows and movies off Netflix to watch to ease your worries during finals week and the inevitable family drama during the holiday season.

Virgin River

I adore this show and luckily, season two just dropped on Friday, November 27th. It’s a very carefree, visually beautiful, and extremely quick binge show covering some serious topics about grief, PTSD, family, town drama, and the realities of adulthood. It’s also, apparently, a book series. I highly recommend sitting down to binge these two seasons; I’ve been helpless waiting to see season two for almost a year now and already am on episode eight.

Sweet Magnolias

I didn’t think I’d enjoy this show as much as I did when I began watching it. Much like Virgin River, it’s a very carefree television show following three women in a small, rural town trying to raise their families and be independent. It’s extremely binge-worthy, tastefully simple, even humorous at times. A great show to watch if you need a distraction. I also believe the show has been confirmed for a season two, which should be releasing soon in 2021.

Spinning Out

This show has to be one of my favorites that I’ve seen on Netflix. Such a great watch for the winter season and also fantastic display of giving a voice and visual to those struggling with mental illness and managing their young adult lives. It however, as of right now, has been cancelled and will not be getting a season two. Luckily, it doesn’t end with a huge cliffhanger that will leave you unsatisfied with the ending. Seriously, put this show on. I genuinely couldn’t stop watching it!

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

This movie is such a cute film and quite frankly, a good book as well. I must have seen this movie ten times already just as a distraction or something to watch to ease my mind. Really, really sweet film.

Queer Eye

If you haven’t seen Queer Eye yet, please drop everything at once. AHH, not only will you adore the five guys, but it’s really just empowering to watch them transform other people’s lives.

Gossip Girl

I mean… it’s Gossip Girl. You put it on and fall into a whole other universe; it’s spicy, filled with drama, and the lovely terms of growing up and becoming a young adult. A very fun watch and easily binge-worthy show to put on for some causal getting away from reality. Better binge soon though; it’s going off Netflix soon in 2021. Also, there’s a reboot of the show coming out sometime next year so keep an eye out.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

Throwback to being a kid, Avatar is probably single-handedly one of the best tv shows of all time. Quick three seasons, followed by The Legend of Korra, yes please.

Hope you enjoy and take the time to step away from all that studying and worrying to sit down and enjoy some time alone of with friends to binge some juicy, carefree shows and films off of Netflix.

XOXO

Hey all! My name is Monica and I'm currently a senior at CNU dual majoring in History and English Literature. Most likely you're going to catch me on campus stressed, binging House or Criminal Minds or hanging out with my roommates and watching horrible movies, fixing family dinners, and wasting all my money at Barnes and Noble.
