CNU’s Gymnastics Club is a place for anyone who loves gymnastics. The club consists of a wide variety of students. There are people who did competitive gymnastics for 10 years, ex-cheerleaders, people who haven’t done gymnastics since they were little, people who have never tried the sport, and people who just want to jump on the trampoline.

Toby Brooks ’15

President/Founder of CNU Gymnastics Club

Previous Gymnastics Experience: 10 years up to level 9 (the highest level in gymnastics is 10!)

What inspired you to start the CNU Gymnastics Club?

“I really missed the sport and we didn’t have a gymnastics club at CNU. I knew if I was missing gymnastics, then there were other people missing the sport too. I also wanted to give people who wanted to learn gymnastics an opportunity to do so. I wanted to create a place for anyone who loved gymnastics.”

What do you see in the club’s future?

“There’s a lot of potential for growth. The club can possibly be competitive in the future but we still want to keep the fun and welcoming atmosphere.

“The people are what make the club. It doesn’t matter the skill level: everyone wants to work hard and have fun keeping up with – and learning – gymnastics together. And that’s what makes CNU Gymnastics Club so great.”

Previous Gymnastics Experience: None – He came in with absolutely no gymnastics experience and left the very first practice being able to do a punch front (a front flip with no hands).

What advice would you give to someone who wants to try gymnastics, but has no previous experience?

“When you just start out, there’s no pressure. Everyone is really helpful.”

“I love the adrenaline rush of defying gravity.”

The club practices Tuesdays and Thursdays 8-10 p.m. at a gym just a few minutes away from campus. There are people who attend every single practice for the whole two hours. Then there are people who only come once or twice a month or just stay for a little bit. The club really is whatever you want to make it. Come relive your preschool gymnastics days, brush up on your skills, learn some cool tricks to impress your friends, or just get away from campus!
