5 Songs That’ll Get You Through Midterms

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CMU chapter.

Here at CMU, it feels like it’s always midterm week. At this time of the year, it’s hard not to countdown the days to Thanksgiving break and then inevitably winter break, and sometimes we all just want to curl up in our beds and sleep for days. However, instead we’re most likely stuck in the library for days, wanting to ace the next three midterms that come our way. Here’s a few of my favorite indie songs that always brighten up my mood (and maybe even dance a little).

1. Hot Tonight – Tokyo Police Club

Tokyo Police Club have been a bit M.I.A. since there last album release in 2010, but their new album, “Forcefield” just released in early 2014 proves that the long wait for their music was worth it. Hot Tonight, one of the first singles released on the album, has a classic indie rock yet very upbeat and pop-y feel, much like the rest of the album.

2. Sweater Weather – The Neighbourhood

The Neighbourhood is perfection in almost every way – from their simple black and white aesthetic to the range of moods they express in their songs. And well.. “Sweater Weather” is perfect to play when it’s actually sweater weather, a bit of a reminder that maybe cold weather really isn’t that bad.

3. Cheap Sunglasses – Rac, Matthew Kouma

This song reminds me so much of summer, and while we just established that it actually is getting really cold here in Pittsburgh, everyone loves a reminder of summer.

4. Shut Up and Dance – Walk the Moon

In honor of Walk the Moon coming to campus, their latest single “Shut Up and Dance” really makes you want to shut up and just dance. This song has been playing on repeat for me to get my pumped up for the concert.

5. The Mother We Share – CHVRCHES

CHVRCHES is always uplifting for me, not just their upbeat electro-pop beats, but their lyrics as well. The Mother We Share is a great way to lighten up your mood, and although I’ve never been quite into electro music, this song is a true exception.
