What Do You Do on the Weekends Now That Football is Over?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Clemson chapter.

For the past semester, weekends at Clemson were dedicated to football. Saturday was strictly for the Tigers, whether it was spent tailgating and watching in Death Valley, or watching an away game. Sundays became a chill day dedicated to homework where not a soul was around before noon and the library was packed by the time five p.m. came around. But now that there’s no more football (*a single tear is shed*), what is there to do? If you find yourself asking this as much as I did for the past few weeks, here are some great ideas to fill your Saturdays!

Basketball

I know “we aren’t a basketball school”. But, we actually kind of are! Tiger basketball is actually pretty good this year and the games are super fun to watch. With games on the weekdays and weekends, this year’s basketball schedule can keep you pretty busy. Get to the games early to get free student tickets and make a day out of it! Take a look at the basketball schedule here

Baseball

Baseball is one of the most underrated college sports in my opinion. The Clemson baseball team is very good and plays nationally ranked teams. There’s nothing better than watching America’s Pastime on a warm, spring day. Grab some friends and spend the afternoon watching a good game at the beautiful Kingsmore Stadium. You won’t be disappointed! Check out the schedule here!

Greenville or Asheville

They may not be the biggest cities on the map, but Greenville and Asheville are some of the coolest places ever! These two small cities are filled with amazing shops, restaurants, small-town charm, and insta-ready spots! Neither is that far, making both a good day trip. After you go, you’ll be planning your next trip there already!

Atlanta or Charlotte

I love Clemson, but it is kind of in the middle of nowhere. But, in just two hours, you can be in two of the country’s major cities. There is obviously a TON to do in either city and it will really feel like a vacation only if it’s just for the day or the weekend!

The Mountains/Hiking

Whether you want to go close like Pickens County or Spartanburg or farther to somewhere like North Carolina, there are great places to hike around Clemson. Table Rock is a Tiger favorite, because it’s pretty close, a great hike, and the view is amazing! The mountains down the road in Spartanburg are also beautiful and offer more variation. A trip to North Carolina is great, too! There’s a ton of places to go hiking and you get to explore a new place!

CORE

CORE is Clemson’s outdoor recreation program. If you like adventuring, meeting new people, and having a great time, DEFINITELY check out CORE! They offer some great day and weekend programs doing amazing things with amazing people. Check out their website!

Road Trip!

Literally anywhere! Pick a road, and start driving. There are amazing towns and cities out there to find, just make sure you have a GPS to get back and that you’re in a safe area!

Y Beach or Lake Keowee

Once it gets warmer, there’s nothing better than being out on the lake! Get your tan on and take a dip in the warm water! Either Y Beach or the shores of Lake Keowee are great places to catch some rays. Sitting by the lake is so calming and it’s a great thing to do either for the day or just for an hour!

Community Service

Why not help others and have a great time doing it? Take a day (or many!) to donate your time to the Clemson area, considering it gives so much to us as students. There are amazing opportunities to go out and serve Clemson. Check out Our Daily Rest (soup kitchen), PAWS Anderson (an animal shelter where you can go play with cats and dogs…if this doesn’t sound amazing I don’t know what does), and so many other organizations around. There’s nothing better than donating time and I’m sure you’ll want to go back after doing it once!
