15 Binge-Worthy Shows for the Cold Weather

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Clemson chapter.

Game of Thrones was right. Winter came to Clemson, and while we may have survived the snow of ’18 and will tell tales of the blessed week of canceled classes, we’re still a southern college down submerged in the wintery depths. What can we do other than strategically layer and spend all our Paw Points on Starbucks? Obviously, binge watch television shows.

No matter what kind of binge sessions you’re craving, these 15 shows are here to save us while we wait for spring.

1. The Crown

This Netflix-exclusive series is just as iconic as the family it documents. Beyond the flawless acting and stunning period details, the story grips you and keeps you coming back throughout both seasons. Plus, royal corgis are a thing, and they’ll make your day.

2. The Magicians

Do you love Harry Potter but just wish Harry could be a drunk grad student instead? Then check out The Magicians. This SyFy-original show just embarked on its third season and with every season the plot pulls us in even further.

3. Stranger Things

If you haven’t seen this yet, it’s time. Not only are you missing out on show, you probably don’t understand half of the memes your friends see you! This show deserves all of the awards and more.

4. Gossip Girl

Gossip Girl changed the face of teen soap operas forever and respect. These Upper East Siders will always deserve a place this list, and we have six whole seasons to savor their scandals and triumphs. By the end, you’ll probably hear “XOXO, Gossip Girl” in your dreams.

5. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

CW pulled out all the stops with Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. If Rebecca Bunch wasn’t relatable enough, just wait until she breaks out in song. You may think that a show about a girl following an ex-boyfriend across the country is sexist, but you’ll be surprised how surprisingly honest (and feminist) it is. Prepare for girl power!

6. Jane the Virgin

This telenovela-inspired show expertly blends tradition with modern storytelling, creating a flawless soap opera centered on Jane as her life upside down. Every character is compelling and serves a thoughtful role and you’ll be gasping at every turn!

7. Father Brown

If you’re craving some wholesome murder mysteries, then Father Brown is perfect. His lighthearted episodes are intriguing and shocking without becoming too dark for a casual binge session. Five years’ worth of will make you wish every Catholic priest was as fun as Father Brown.

8. Pretty Little Liars

This show has been so successful that, if you haven’t seen it, you’re probably , but I relate. I lost interest in the show during its first season, but this is the perfect time to see if it lives up to the hype. These characters are unique and carry secrets that drive the show in , shocking directions.

9. Riverdale

Riverdale has been making the headlines ever since it came out. Though many were skeptical, Riverdale quickly developed a cult following and has many hooked.

10. Bob’s Burgers

If you’re searching for the perfect casual show, check out Bob’s Burgers, and if you’re anything like me, you’ll watch it for days straight. The episodes are witty and hilarious, and you can’t help but fall in love with the Belchers.

11. Brooklyn 99

The best way to describe Brooklyn 99 is that it’s “The Office” of crime shows, but it’s so much more than that. The characters are lovable and hilarious and while there are overarching themes, you can start and stop your Netflix marathon without worrying about forgetting some major plot point.

12. Nurse Jackie

If you love hospital shows and need to see the life of a highly functioning drug addict, then check out “Nurse Jackie.” As her addiction grows, her life spirals with the introduction of more new lies. You’ll wonder how she gets out of trouble so , but you’ll love it .

13. Gilmore Girls

This may be the ultimate binge-worthy show. The “Gilmore Girls” are full of drama, but that’s why we love them! There are so many seasons to throw yourself into and when you’ve reached the end, you can throw yourself into the sequel! Just prepare to get hungry every episode.

14. The Fall

This cat-and-mouse show documents a serial killer and the detective assigned to catch him. It’s and dark and it begs for you to binge it. will bring a whole new meaning to “Mr. Grey will see you now…”

15. The Vampire Diaries

The vampire craze may have died down, but it produced this gem of a show. Why settle for a teen soap opera when you can add in supernatural beings? This long-running show just ended but will remind you of how much you crushed on vampires in middle school.

Honorable Mention

Scream: Season one kept me up all night, either binging or terrified by the horror. The first season was an upgrade to the 1996 iconic film, but the second season was a letdown for most fans. With the announcement that the third season will follow different characters, I don’t feel comfortable suggesting it for binging purposes.
