It’s safe to say that finals week brings out the worst in everyone. From the time reading days start until the end of the last exam period, nearly every Clarkie is on high stress mode worrying about seemingly endless exams, papers, projects and whatever else professors can throw our way. With so much to do in such a short amount of time, it’s easy to justify spending all of your time in the library. Many people fail to realize how unhealthy this is. It’s so important to unwind—even if it is just for a few minutes between exams. Here are some of our favorite ways to take a quick break during the most awful time of the semester!

1. Go out to eat

With the crazy amount of work you need to complete in the last two weeks of school, you shouldn’t be subjected to the dining hall food 24/7. Gather a group of friends together and head over to your favorite restaurant (we recommend Chipotle!) for a fun study break while enjoying some delicious food! You’ll return to the library full and motivated to get back to work!

2. Take a nap

Finals week automatically means losing precious hours of sleep in exchange for more hours hibernating in the stacks. Snuggle up in your favorite blanket (we personally love the Vera Bradley Throw blankets) and treat yourself to a nap after an especially hard exam. You’ll wake up fresh and rejuvenated!

3. Read a book

Okay, we know this seems a little bit far-fetched. Why the heck would you ever waste time reading for fun during finals week? Reading something completely not school related is an excellent way to get your mind off of how stressed you are for a little bit and immerse yourself into an entirely new world. Our favorite book right now is Girl in the Woods by Aspen Matis. It’s an amazing memoir about Aspen’s experience hiking the Pacific Crest Trail after leaving college at the very beginning of her freshman year.

Taking a break doesn’t need to be a form of procrastination! Instead think of it as a way to recollect your thoughts and prepare for the next set of tasks you have to complete. What are your favorite study break activities?

Happy studying!
