*Preface: I am not a psychologist, therapist, or any licensed mind professional. These are some things I learned from reading some articles and applying them to my life.

You know that feeling of “This isn’t right” so you trust your gut? Then you might also know the feeling of “what if I am overthinking this?”. Well, I am going to tell you how to distinguish between the two and also some tips on how to clear your head to get to a conclusion/ solution.

Overthinking/Anxiety

When you are overthinking your thought process is not flowing freely or organically but is following a very specific agenda to build a case for something you’ve already made up your mind about.

– causes you to worry about the future

-causes feelings of uncertainty

-interferes with everyday life

Intuition/Trusting your gut

Intuition is less verbal and more silent and more textural, it is more of a sense, like a feeling or a vibe (Marshall, 2018). Your gut instincts are those nagging feelings that alert you to potentially dangerous situations or let you know when something may go wrong.

-Gut Instincts Can Be Tested & Verified

-Gut Instincts Are Based In Patterns

-Gut Instincts Help Center You

-Gut Instincts Often Have Solutions

Some ways to clear your mind and help you know what you are experiencing could be:

– Going on a walk

-Journaling (if you look over what you read you may be able to decipher between the two)

-Be aware of the sensations in your body (intuition is grounded within the sensations inside of the body, so learning to recognize what’s going on within your body—i.e. what you’re feeling—is key to developing your intuition).
