While You Were Studying: #threefictionalcharacters

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chatham chapter.

While you were studying and being a productive human, a new hashtag has emerged from the social media abyss called #threefictionalcharacters. The main premise of the hashtag is to post a photo of three fictional characters that describes you. Here are some of the top posts:

The campaign started on Instagram and soon spread to other platforms as the trend caught on. People are really getting into this trend–discovering their inner fictional character. When hearing about the hashtag, I instantly thought it was cool, being a television buff myself so I started to think what would be my three fictional characters. It was a bit challenging since when I consume fiction it is mostly because I like how different the characters are from myself and how I can escape from my world into theirs. Anyways I took a crack at it… and here’s what I got:

Sue Heck

Fans of the ABC sitcom, The Middle will be familiar Sue Heck. She is full of energy and enthusiasm is always willing to help and try to do things to please her friends and family. She reaches for the stars and isn’t afraid to go after dreams. She’s super involved and always has a smile. At times, she becomes a frustrated but stays resilient to reach her goals. Sue can be overlooked at times but she always comes through when it counts.

Ugly Betty

Ugly Betty is the ultimate career woman. She’s a Hispanic woman navigating the confusing world high-fashion to reach her dream of journalistic writing. Betty loves her family and is a devoted daughter, sister and aunt. A common theme with Betty is her selflessness as she often puts her family, her boss, and boyfriends first. However, as the show progress we see Betty’s transformations.

Garnet

Garnet is one of the three crystal gems from Cartoon Network’s Steven Universe. She speaks very little but is often the smartest person in the room. The other Gems often look to her for the plan. She has a very stoic presence so she’s hard to read. She’s cares about her family and would do anything to protect the ones she loves.

Some Honorable Mentions: Penny Proud, Raven (That’s So Raven) Raven (Teen Titans) Paris (Gilmore Girls), Maxine (Living Single).

Who were your three? Post in the comments!
