As a frequent flier of the Chapman gym (love walking on that treadmill), I have begun to notice the different types of people that spend a lot of time at the gym. These people are all there to keep that bod in shape but some of them stand out a little more than others.

The grunter: These bulky men are something else. While sporting their bro tanks and sipping their protein powder, they let out loud groans so you know that they do indeed “lift.” You can find them hanging around in the back of the gym, hogging the weight machines and getting way too excited about working out. Is all this grunting necessary? Is the weight you are lifting really that heavy? I can never tell if these people actually think that the grunt will enhance their performance or if is it a cry (literally) for attention.

The fashionista: As we know we all attend a very fashion forward school and believe me this carries over into the gym. Many people treat the treadmill as a runway and sport some pretty costly running clothes. This is totally a personal preference. A lot of my friends like wearing nice workout clothes so they feel more confident while working out.  Personally, I am more of a sorority tee and running shorts kind of girl but I guess whatever works for you right?

The people who just use the gym for the TVs: Our gym is equipped with really nice new machines which all have entertainment systems attached. These systems include cable, internet and all sorts of games. This makes working out a lot less painful but sometimes people forget the point of the machines in the first place. I am not lying when I say I have gone to the gym and seen people just standing on the treadmill watching the Kardashians. I mean I get that we all need some Scott Disick in our lives, but come on, some people are actually trying get a work out.

The people watchers: These people can be spotted running at a medium pace and looking all over the place. They are the ones eager to smile and wave at any one remotely familiar that they see. At certain times, the gym can be very social and these people live for that. They frequently stop their workouts to go and chat with their friends and spot familiar people from classes.

The try-hards: These people are the ones you wish you could be more like. They are always pushing themselves to go that extra mile and make you look bad because of it. I will admit that sometimes I envy these people, but they are the ones doing the gym right.

Whatever type of gym person you are, congratulate your self for going to the gym and staying healthy!
