Couples costumes.. It’s hard to figure out a stance on them. They are sometimes so cute and sometimes so uncomfortable, but sometimes so clever and sometimes so cliche. The lines are never clear on them, therefore if you are part of a couple, then it is hard to decide what to do.

Seeing as how couples costumes are such a hit if done properly, here are a couple of solid ideas to get you and your significant other heading toward the right direction.

  1. Recreate a historically sweet couple such as the couple in the photograph V-J Day in Times Square by Alfred Eisenstaedt. The signature pose of the night will be predetermined and the cuteness factor will be there — but your friends may be annoyed by the constant PDA, so behave.
  2. Be a blast from the past and flashback to an old cartoon your friends grew up watching. It’s hard to hate on you for being cutesy if they all loved that show too.
  3. Be a pun. Puns are pretty great, so if you can pull it off, do it.
  4. Make it alcohol related.. We are all college students. Therefore if you recreate a popular drink, people will only give you props.
  5. Household items are always a good option, as long as the crafting skills and dedication to the costume shines through the day of Halloween.

Remember to stay away from huge cliches and keep it fresh in order to get a more positive reaction when you and your date are rocking your matching costumes. Keep it light and upbeat, and people will only wish they thought of that first rather anything else!
