An Open Letter to Long Distance Relationships

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapman chapter.

The other side of the world seems so far away. If you calculate the distance it equals a total of 6,118 miles. Mathematically speaking, that’s how far away you are from the one person who is your everything. If you think about it on a more philosophical level, distance is just an idea. No, you can’t just see him whenever you want. He can’t hold your hand or kiss your lips or just be by your side, but he is always by your side anyway.

He is there for you when you need him most. He’s just a text, a phone call or a FaceTime away. It’s the understanding that you both know you are each other’s love and nothing can get in the way of that. You have complete trust that even though you are not physically next to each other, your hearts are connected from thousands of miles away.

The distance is far, but the love is real. You don’t need to be side by side to know that. You just feel it. That’s how a long distance relationship works. It’s like any other relationship, but the moment when you do see each other, is a million times more special than if you were together everyday. It’s like a fireworks show, just for the two of you; and that is love.
