It’s that time of year again, Turkey Day is coming upon us once again. This holiday is all about the food… and friends and family of course. But sometimes you can’t go home for Thanksgiving and you honestly don’t want to spend the time and energy in making a turkey so here are some alternate dinner options for you to eat with your friends.
1. Making a turkey is a lot of work. It’s a commitment actually and when you can barely choose what to order at Starbucks, spending half your day prepping and roasting a turkey is very unappealing. Instead buy some chicken and make a stir fry instead. Or better yet just buy a roast chicken. So quick. So easy.
2. What about those side dishes? Mac and Cheese is a solid go to. It’s comfort food, even though you can’t be home eating mashed potatoes and gravy you can still have the same mac and cheese from your childhood.
3. Dinner rolls. So important. Yet when you go to the store to buy them they’re all sold out because you’re lazy and didn’t get them earlier. Instead of having a mini meltdown grab some cornbread instead. It’s inexpensive and if you get the Jiffy kind it tastes like cake, add some honey to that and you got yourself the most delicious side.
4. At this point the meal is looking not too shabby except you realize there’s no vegetables. As a newly minted adult you figure you should have some sort of healthy food, but what to make…? Or more realistically buy? Go to the frozen aisle and grab some corn or peas. They’re easily made in a microwave and you can tell your parents you made a vegetable.
5. Dessert, the most important part of Thanksgiving. The sacred pumpkin pie should not be messed with. If you did not think ahead and get a pie shame on you.
And if of course this is all too much for you, you can always just buy Thanksgiving TV dinners for you and all your friends. Nothing like TV bringing people together.
