Bullet Journals: What They Are & Why They’re Great

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapman chapter.

The term “Bullet Journal” has been featured on the internet like crazy for the last couple of months, and odds are you’ve seen at least one post relating to it. The thing is, it’s hard to explain what it is to other people, but it’s incredibly amazing and easy to use one for yourself.

It’s basically a journal where you can keep track of every little thing that goes on in your mind, mostly in bullet points. There are terms and plans you can follow, but ultimately, I decided there are no rules to it. You can have anything you want in it, from to do lists, to future plans, to birthday calendars, to doodles, to a goals list, the options are never ending. The idea behind it is that this type of journaling and quick note taking is easier and more soothing to the mind than writing out long sentences.

Personally, I love to keep diaries and journals. I have a whole stack of them at the end of each year, and not one of them looks exactly the same which is why I love this type of journaling; it really allows your creativity to flourish.

However, the truth is that not everyone is going to like bullet journaling. For some, it might be too wild and free and for others, it might not be enough. It’s one of those things that I can only hope you try and figure out if you like it or not. I find it easy and relaxing to jot down ideas and drawings on this journal, and I’ve tried several times to have my friends do it too; some got into it and some didn’t.

Overall, bullet journaling can help soothe your mind, help you get more tasks done and become a place where you explore your creativity. And although it might seem like just another fad to some, I hope to leave you with is this: Don’t knock it ill you’ve tried it.
