As the spring semester comes to a close, I find myself reminiscing about all of the amazing things I did this year. My first year was definitely memorable, and below are a few highlights!

The Solar Eclipse

I honestly can’t think of a better way to start off college. I spent that day sitting on the grass with the lovely folks pictured, discussing class schedules and our plans for the semester.

Halloween on Franklin Street

Part of being a UNC student is participating in all of the UNC traditions. Halloween night, my friends traveled to Franklin Street to look at all the unique costumes and enjoy some burgers and free candy.

Rushing Franklin Street

Rushing Franklin Street after beating Duke is another classic UNC tradition. I wasn’t able to join my friends in the Dean Smith Center to watch the game; however, I did get to watch it in the Union, which was just as amazing (it didn’t hurt that the Union gave out free pizza, drinks and other goodies).

Seeing Two Concerts

I got to see one of my favorite new bands, The Wallows, perform at Cat’s Cradle (a local music spot) with one of my friends Selena. And I got to see Wakka Flocka perform at UNC’s Jubilee.

Movie Nights/Avatar: The Last Airbender Nights

At the beginning of the semester, my suitemates and I compiled a list of all of the TV shows and movies we wanted to watch together. After some debate, we decided on watching the entire “Avatar: The Last Airbender” series over the course of the year (around three or four episodes every Friday night). Sometimes we would skip a few Fridays, and I would instead head over to Granville Towers to watch random movies and “Arrested Development” with my friends Selena, Grace and Katelyn. All of those nights were all filled with tears of joy, laughter, food and fun.

Overall, my first year of college was amazing. The year went by so fast, and I can’t believe it’s over. When I first came here, I was excited but scared. I’m a natural introvert, so making new friends is hard for me, but I got out of my comfort zone and met some amazing people who made my first year magical. I can’t wait to continue my college experience with everyone next year, and I hope everyone has an amazing summer!

How was your first year of college?

I am currently a student at UNC Chapel Hill studying English and Communications. In the future I hope to become a writer/producer for the Disney company. "You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think." -Christopher Robin, Winnie the Pooh
