The Calm Before the Storm

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapel Hill chapter.

It’s almost Thanksgiving, which all college students know is the last kind of break before the total insanity of winter finals. It’s one of the most intense parts of the semester when you have final papers and projects due, and you just know that it’s going to be getting worse from here. Think about this break as a time for you to rest up and take care of yourself, so you can go into finals at your best, peak form.

Try to come up with ways that you can make time for yourself and make yourself feel good with the time off. If family is a big source of support for you, Thanksgiving is a great time to spend quality time with family members and let them support you. Talk to your mom about your classes. Listen to your sister tell you that she also stressed when she was in college and it was okay. Spend time with your grandparents that you don’t get to see as often as you would like.

For other people, the holidays and the family obligations they imply are stressful or painful. If that’s you, keep in touch with friends over the break and don’t try to isolate yourself. The holidays begin and end, and it’s just a few weeks to get through. Get the sleep you need and take time for making the perfect cup of coffee or a great gym workout. Don’t make yourself feel bad if the holidays aren’t a picture perfect time for you.

Ultimately, just remember you’re going to be okay. There might be a lot going on right now, but you can absolutely do everything you need to and come out of it. This might be the calm before the storm, but storms always pass.
