As most of us know, Gucci Mane and Keyshia Ka’oir tied the knot live on BET on October 17, 2017. The wedding was a highly anticipated event, due to the fact that the couple had one episode a week for nine weeks released on BET leading up to the live stream of the wedding. According to Page Six magazine the wedding cost around 1.7 million dollars. This cost is not including Ka’oir’s 5 million dollar engagement ring or the luxury car gifted to her the night before the wedding It is charming to see a favorable rapper settling down and treating a woman right. However it is important to note that Keyshia has been by Gucci’s side for almost ten years now meaning that the all white wedding, happily ever after, was not achieved easily “#goals”.

Ka’oir met Gucci Mane in 2010 on the set of one of his music videos.  Gucci was at a key point in his career, but at the same time he was in trouble with the law and simultaneously battling an addiction to codeine. Despite his faults, Ka’oir became Gucci’s ride or die. She was the only person who never turned her back on him at every hard point in his life. This loyalty was rewarded with the lavish lifestyle they currently live in. It is admirable to see a couple face various challenges and remain together, however it is important to note that this successful relationship will not translate to two different people in similar situations. Twitter has been raving about the idea of Keyshia Ka’oir being a “real woman” for sticking by Gucci’s side but at the same time bashing women who would not chose to stay with a man who has a similar reputation as Gucci’s. Celebrity couples always make social media rave about a new set of “goals” per each couple. Right now the idea of a man from the hood finally doing a woman right after constant conflicts is in. It is essential to observe how these trends change people’s mentalities/expectations of their significant others. Yes, hood love can make it out of the hood and into success, but that is not the case for everyone.

Often times, we, the public, fetishize celebrity relationships to the point where we have no expectations of our own. When observing those in the entertainment business we need to separate their lives from ours. As much as we can have similar struggles or interests, we can approach them in different ways which ultimately leads to different results. Having a strong sense of self is essential when social media provides different ideologies of  “goals” every week or so. Value YOURSELF as a person and life will reward you with what you are dreaming of in a significant other. Gucci Mane and Keyshia Ka’oir are a powerful couple that have become such through over time. While we value their beautiful ceremony, instagram pictures, etc-it is also vital to admire the realness they have been through and how it is not likely to be the same for any other couple.
