Let’s Finish Strong C/O 2016: 3 Tips for Conquering Senioritis

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CAU chapter.

Too Lit ’16, we’re almost there!

I can’t believe that senior year is halfway over! It feels like it was just yesterday that we came to campus, optimistic to make the most of our matriculation at our illustrious university. This four-year experience (and some super senior exceptions) has been a great one, but the end of the road seems so close yet so far away! I’ll be the first to admit that senioritis has taken its toll on me, and I know that I’m not the only one. With the fall semester basically over and our last semester quickly approaching (tear), I know that everyone is beyond over school at this point. It feels like we’re crawling to that stage on May 16th. Lucky for you, we’ve got you covered with tips to help you make it through senior year successfully! Get ready to take a couple of mental notes. These simple, yet highly effective and necessary gems will help so much.

1) Organize. Organize. ORGANIZE!

When you take the extra time put things in order, life just seems to follow suit. Organization is a known key to success across all boards. Make daily lists. Keep a planner for your various deadlines and reminders. Set reminders on your iPhone (or those other phones, no shade but shade lol). Utilize your calendar on the wall to help you visualize your months ahead. With so many methods to start or keep being organized, there’s no excuse to fall behind when there are constant reminders of what’s to come around you. Trust me, you will thank me later!

2) Just relax.

When you take the time to just chill and get your life together, it pays off in your overall performance! Sit back. Take a deep breath, or two or three. Meditate. Pray about it. Take a study break. You’ve made it this far; don’t let school overwhelm you to the point of a meltdown. We know that preparatory steps must be taken for those senior portfolios, collections, final projects and campaigns, but just relax. We seniors have so much on our plates to focus on from securing jobs post-graduation to where we’re going to live to how we’re going to pay for it all to “real-world” fears and SO MUCH MORE! However, I can assure you that everything will be alright in the end. If we’ve learned nothing else at CAU, we’ve learned how to “Find a way or make one!” We always look back on situations, wondering why we were so worried and stressed, and this time is no different. Just relax, young Panther. Your hardwork will pay off!

3) Stay focused and motivated.

Set goals and actually reach them. With finals quickly approaching, equip yourself to ace every one. Our ultimate goal is to make it to that blessed day on May 16, 2016. Visualize yourself walking across that stage and do the work and take the necessary steps so you actually make it. We’d hate to leave you behind but will do so gladly! Remember freshman year when they administration told us to look to our left and to our right and know that everyone sitting alongside us wouldn’t make it to the end? That couldn’t be more correct! But we made it this far, and graduation is the goal. Tough it out and make this last stretch your best yet!!

One more thing…

Before I go, there are a few things that absolutely need to be done before the spring semester ends. Here’s a checklist to make remembering a little easier! ***If we forgot anything, don’t hesitate to let us know!***

  • Set your calendar for May 16, 2016!
  • Submit graduation applications to the Registrar’s office
  • Get graduation clearance from the library
  • Submit cap and gown measurements online at heffjones.com/college/cau before April 1st – it’s free!
  • Update resumes and utilized the Career and Professional Development Center on campus
  • Distribute your resume to potential and desired employers
  • Secure internships (especially those that could lead to a job)
  • Secure job placements
  • Save up those funds rolling in, as those bills add up quickly after graduation!
  • Check with Student Accounts, Resident’s Life and any other offices to make sure that your accounts are cleared!
  • Make great grades to finish off strong! If all else fails, remember that C’s get degrees!

We can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Whether you’re graduating cum, suma cum, magna cum or just thank you laude (lol), the important thing is you made it to senior year. Get ready to dance all over the sacred grass!!!!!
