The Moment’s It Girl: Meet Sofia Richie and her breathtaking wedding

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Casper Libero chapter.

If you are into fashion, celebrities, and the wealthy world you have probably heard about Sofia Richie since she definitely is the new it girl of the moment. Her wedding, love life and work life have been discussed on the internet lately, but, besides the fact that she just got married and is a fashion icon, what else do you know about Sofia Richie?

Who is she?

Sofia Alexandra Richie, Nicole’s Richie sister, is the youngest daughter of Lionel Richie, the singer-songwriter known for the hits “Endless Love feat. Diana Ross” and “Say You, Say Me”. She was born in Los Angeles and grew up with a lot of music around her since her father is a music legend and her godfather is the iconic Michael Jackson. Therefore, Sofia started singing at five years old and learned to play the piano at seven years old.

She became a model and a fashion designer, deciding not to pursue the same career as her dad. Her debut happened at fourteen years old on Teen Vogue and since then Sofia has already worked for brands like Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel, Jeremy Scott, Kanye West’s Yeezy line, and was the face of Madonna’s Material Girl line.

Her wedding

The model and the musical producer, Elliot Grainge, said yes at the luxury Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc located in Antibes, France. The Richie and Grainge families have been friends for more than 20 years due to the fact that Lionel has collaborated a few times with Elliot’s father, Lucian Grainge, the CEO of Universal Music Group.

The couple was introduced through mutual friends and started the relationship in 2021. Before Elliot, Sofia was in a long-term relationship with Scott Disick. The media had a lot to say about them at the time since they met when she was 19 years old and Kourtney Kardashian’s ex was 34 years old.

Elliot proposed to Sofia in Hawaii, after dating for a year. “He proposed at golden hour—it was magical,” said Sofia to Vogue, after a controversial and quite polemic relationship she is finally having the princess treatment every little girl dreams about.

The traditional Jewish wedding was very important for them both.“It was very important to Elliot’s family and to me, now that I’ve converted, that it be a traditional Jewish ceremony” said the bride in her Vogue interview. She also shared that before leaving for France, they got married in a private ceremony at home surrounded by their families. Sofia wanted to do something just for the two of them and their families in privacy.

The “It Girl” of the moment

Sofia’s styles have been through different paths during the year. When she was dating Scott she used to dress just like the Kardashians, with sensual outfits, gym, and street-style looks. After the breakup, the fans noticed a change in her clothes, and in her style in general.

Right now, Richie’s style is what people call “quiet luxury”: it is a more toned-down, minimalist look highlighting understated pieces, high-quality fabrics, and tailored cuts. For her wedding weekend, she chose Chanel to dress her throughout the three special moments: the rehearsal dinner, the ceremony itself, and the after-party.

For the rehearsal dinner, Sofia used as an inspiration a gown worn by Stella Tennant in the 1997 Chanel couture fall show. Her dress brought a glam visual without losing the elegance. The after-party look was a traditional Chanel, inspired by the dress worn by Claudia Schiffer in 1993. Finally, for the big date, she chose a current Chanel dress from the fall 2022 couture as a model. “Within the dress are subtle details, including an embroidered heart to represent the love that Elliot and I share, as well as a blue embroidered S&E on the inside of the dress above my heart,” said Sofia about the dress, so romantic!

After everything you read, it is pretty clear that Sofia Richie is representing a new side of It Girls, with a quiet-luxury, elegant, and sophisticated style she is dominating the internet, specially Tik Tok where she shares a little bit about her life in a way that is attracting a lot of followers. Well, it looks like the “less is more” trend is coming with everything and Sofia is here to prove it.
