After a long period of desperation the first job finally came. However, before getting there, I must share my personal journey of “please God I need to start working or I will die poor”.
I would go to internship interviews three times a week. This journey took me to places every girl aspiring to be a journalist would love to be in and also to ones I had no idea about what I was supposed to do. By this time, I found out that the ones I wasn’t that much interested in, well, they were not interest in me neither. For about 5 long months I would get almost daily an e-mail informing me that I was almost there, but I didn’t get the job. Really? What was I doing wrong?
Well, I’ll never understand. The only thing I know for sure it’s that once I did it right and, still in that case, I also can’t tell why. This was the only time I hadn’t prepared myself: It took two hours from sending my resumée to sitting across my future (#girl)boss, answering everything she asked me. The day after, I was totally daydreaming in my couch (I really was, not telling you just to give you the feels) when I got THE call. I. Was. Hired.
The next week, I started journalist life at iG, a Brazilian news website, where I’ve been working for six months now. I write to Delas section, which means I am responsible for creating content for women. For five months, my focus was developing material to be published at gastronomy, tourism and mainly home & décor – the hardest one to talk about. You might think it is an easy task, but it is definitely not.
Yes, I do have a home and, yes, I have been to different houses, though I couldn’t tell if someone’s table was silestone or ceaserstone – or whatever material it can be made of. On the other hand, the best thing about this profession is that you have the skills to discover everything you want to. So this is how I started understanding a little bit everyday about this whole universe of architecture and decoration that I’d probably never get to really know.
In this moment, my job is to find topics to cover about beauty and fashion world. What did Rihanna were at Paris Fashion Week? That’s with me. How to rock your make up to party like a total diva? Me. And that’s not even the best part: in a few weeks I will be at backstage of São Paulo Fashion Week catwalk’s shows taking notes of everything that is going to be huge next season. Quite well to first internship, right?
Even though it is really awesome, it does take a lot of working. Fashion and beauty is fun, but it does need a lot of study with you want to step out from common sense. And we all do, right?
