Ever since its release on Prime Video, the Off Campus series has stolen millions of critics and viewer’s hearts. The screen adaptation of the New York Times best selling book saga about the love lives of four hockey players at Briar University officially became the third biggest premiere on the platform, achieving 36 million viewers globally during its first 12 days of streaming.

Even though its first season focused on Hannah (Ella Bright) and Garrett’s (Belmont Cameli) love story as the main plot line, the side character Allie Hayes, played by actress Mika Abdalla, quickly became a fan favorite. She resonated especially with women who relate to her dry humor, optimistic personality, and an authentic sense of style, all traits that the actress herself was responsible for bringing to the character.

For the past month, Mika has quickly taken over everyone’s screens, becoming the go-to inspiration for women who want to incorporate the effortless cool girl style that the actress has mastered into their lives. But she has also left millions to wonder: how has she managed to fly under people’s radar during all this time?

The Early Years

Although her rise to fame has been fast paced and unexpected to many fans, the 26 year old actress has been steadily building a career for herself in the industry since she was very young. Her acting debut, similar to A-listers Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato, happened in the year of 2008, at only 8 years old, when she made an appearance on Barney & Friends, during episode 9 of its twelfth season.

After that, Mika went on to book roles on mostly independent productions, such as a minor part on the short film Tinsel and the main character in Hemera’s Eclipse during the year of 2012, as well as the character of Summer in the 2014’s film, Summer’s Shadow

In 2015, she booked the role of McKeyla McAlister on Netflix’s Project Mc2. The series follows a teen spy and her three best friends who use their knowledge of science and technology to defeat evil, went on for six seasons (and a New Year’s Eve movie special) until its final episode aired in November of 2017. That was considered to really be her first breakout moment.

Following her first project outside of the independent filmmaking industry, Abdalla slowly started to make special appearances in bigger TV series, such as S.W.A.T. in 2020, The Flash throughout in 2022, as well as marking her presence in Suits: L.A. and The Pitt (where she acted alongside her future Off Campus costars, Jalen Thomas Brooks) during the year of 2025.

A New Era Incoming

After Off Campus’s first season release, Mika has taken over the world as 2026’s official new it girl. She has been inspiring girls who wish to channel their inner confidence with new makeup, hairstyle and fashion trends that carry a more grunge laid-back look, contrasting the “clean girl” wave that has been the standard for the past couple of years.

Her signature on and off screen “shaggy cut” hairstyle has gone viral over the past weeks, with younger women taking on this new look as a way to embrace their natural curls with more style and layers. Make up products frequently used by the actress, such as Clinique’s Black Honey lipstick, have also been selling out constantly.

The On-Screen Spark Winning Hearts

Aside from beauty and fashion trends, her undeniable chemistry with costar Stephen Kalyn, who portrays hockey player and Allie’s love interest Dean Dilaurentis, has also made many viewers tune in to watch Off Campus. It has also drawn audiences to their  recently released audio series Rent Free, available for listening on the Quinn app.

In terms of what’s next for Abdalla in acting, season two of Off Campus has already been green lit, and Prime Video has officially confirmed that Allie and Dean’ story will be taking the center of the stage as the main plot line for the next episodes.

Filming has officially begun this month in Vancouver and is expected to carry on until late September, but viewers have already begun counting down the days until season 2 drops in (hopefully) the first half of 2027 to watch Mika take on Allie Hayes’ new journey to self discovery and love with more of her unforgettable acting moments.

Mika Abdalla may not have started Off Campus as its central character, but she has undeniably become its emotional core, and, in many ways, the face audiences can’t look away from. With a career built steadily over the years and a breakout moment that feels both sudden and long overdue, she now steps into a new phase where talent, timing and cultural impact finally align. If season one made viewers notice her, season two is set to confirm what fans already believe: Mika Abdalla isn’t just part of the story anymore, she is the moment.
