Music is something present in everyone’s life. Who have never left the house with the headphones on pretending to have a soundtrack? Not to mention when we sat leaning against the window of the car listening to that sad song and pretending to be in a video clip. A lot of songs represents moments in our lives, such as feelings, memories and even thoughts.

In the case of movies, the soundtrack often guides the plot and portrays the story by the letters and the melody. Without a good soundtrack, the production doesn’t have the same impact on the viewer. What would be of Psycho without the famous track of the scene in the bath, for example? And it’s no different with TV shows.

Comedy, drama, suspense or horror, every show has its soundtrack that represents the story through music. We often recognize a song from “that serie I watched last week” and we even remember the scene it plays. That’s why we’ve listed 6 best series with amazing soundtracks that will make you sing and relate to it even more!

1. Everything Sucks!

This Netflix series, launched later this year, takes place in the 1990s and brings a journey of self-discovery by a group of teenagers in Oregon. Each episode has a series of references to the pop culture of the decade, especially in the songs. From Oasis’s “Wonderwall” to Tori Amos’ “Cornflake Girl,” the hit soundtrack makes everyone come back to that time immediately, leading to a 90’s dive into those who haven’t lived through it. Unfortunately, the series was canceled with only one season, but the soundtrack is worth listening to! Check out the Spotify playlist.

2. The O.C

One of the favorites shows of the 00s, The O.C. became a hit for the stories of the famous “Fantastic Four” (Summer, Seth, Ryan and Marissa), and also for the songs that packed its unfoldings. The series was responsible for revealing many bands from the 2000s, such as american alternative rock Death Cab For Cutie. To justify the relevance of the songs in the series, the soundtrack yielded 6 CDs with the best songs of the episodes.

The first two albums had the songs of the first season and the third is a Christmas special (the famous Chrismukkah). Already in the fourth CD are the songs of the second season, while the fifth had the best of the third season, and the sixth of the fourth. You can kill the longing for what happened in Orange County with this playlist here.

3. The End Of The F *** ing World

The series tells the story of two 17-year-old teenagers on a tragicomic and criminal journey: James, who believes he’s a psychopath, and Alyssa, who doesn’t fit into the world which she lives, but finds in James’ oddity a potential for friendship or even for a romance. The plot that already unfolds in an atypical way brings a soundtrack that makes the world in which the protagonists live more bizarre, with the mix of old songs in a current context. Most of the songs are from groups or singers from the 50’s or earlier, such as Bernadette Carroll, Julie London and Carl Smith and this blend fits perfectly into the story. Wanna listen to the soundtrack? Here it is!

4. Empire

One of the most commented series in the USA and acclaimed by the music critic, Empire brings as a synopsis a family drama involving a great boss of the music industry and the struggle of his family to occupy his throne, with the proposal to show the current music industry. With Timbaland as a songwriter and producer, the soundtrack is one of the highlights of the plot, showing a very strong R & B side, pushed hard by the character Jamal, who reminds the rapper Frank Ocean. The track also features popular artists such as Courtney Love in Walk Out On Me, check it out.

5. Big Little Lies

One of the biggest Golden Globe winners, the HBO series won in all categories it contested: best series, best supporting actor, best actress and best supporting actress. If there was the “best soundtrack” award, Big Little Lies would also be the winner. The choice of tracks during the seven episodes of season one is highlighted by its quality, but also by the ability to collaborate in the construction of each character and the plot in an original way.

The songs in Big Little Lies are part of the scenes, included as tracks that are being heard by the characters themselves, and reflect the personality of each of the protagonists. This is exactly what makes this particular element so relevant to the series. Listen to the soundtrack.

6. Stranger Things

One of the most famous shows from Netflix, Stranger Things is set in the 80’s and features a production that depicts various elements of the original decade’s culture. With several references to games and films, such as “Ghostbusters”, “Aliens – The Rescue” and “Gremlins”, but mainly with the soundtrack. The songs chosen were hits from that time and fits perfectly into the scenes, giving more truth to the plot, as in the ball scene packed by Every Breath You Take from The Police.

Surely the soundtrack is one of the highlights of the series. In the second season it was signed by Michael Stein and Kyle Dixon, of the electronic group Survive, that has discs stuffed with dark elements with electronic beats, sometimes more dancing, sometimes more tense, fitting perfectly to the scene of the series. The soundtrack available in the Netflix profile on Spotify, also featuring Joy Division, The Clash, New Order and other classics. The most interesting is that the tracks have references to the scenes in which they play in the series, giving a context to each track. Listen here.
