10 Movies and TV Shows To Watch With Your Mom On Mother’s Day

In face of social isolation, the Mother´s Day celebration plans need to be indoors. But that does not mean that your programming cannot be fun. To honor the relationship of mother and daughter, what about a marathon of movies and series? Take your popcorn, your sweet mom and have a look on our selection.

Mother’s Day

From the same director of the movies “Valentine’s Day” and “New Year’s Eve”, Garry Marshall, the Romantic Comedy Mother’s Day is the perfect movie to watch with your mom and your family. The sensitive story of the most varied types of moms follows the same format of the previous movies from the director. The story happens in the Mother’s day and shows how different families celebrates it. During the movie you see how all the stories get together at one point. It’s a really funny and emotional movie to watch at Mother’s Day. 

Gilmore Girls

If you are looking for a TV show to start watching with your mom this is the perfect one! With 7 seasons, Gilmore Girls was a success when it was on TV from 2000 to 2007, and is still watched by many people. The show focus on the relationship of the single mother Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter Rory. Gilmore Girls explores issues with family, relationships, school, friends and others. It shows mostly the friendship and love between mother and daughter and all the issues they face together.

What To Expect When You Are Expecting

The romantic comedy with famous actress like Jennifer Lopez and Cameron Diaz, follows the stories of five different couples expecting a new kid to the family. Some of them are having their first kid and are really frightened about parenting, while others are having the third and are worried about how to deal with a new baby and take care of all the children. “What To Expect When You Are Expecting” is perfect to watch with your mom and realize all the fears that pregnant women and future dads go through.

Freaky Friday

This classic movie could not be missing in this list! The fantasy-comedy film starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis is a funny one to watch with your mom. Could you imagine switching places with your mom? How it would be like for her to go to school and you go to her work? That’s what happens in “Freaky Friday”. Tess and her daughter Anna constantly are fighting since they have different thoughts about many things and Anna is a really rebel teenager. While arguing in a Chinese Restaurant, one of the waitress give them a  fortune cookie and during the night their bodies are switched. During the film, their relationship starts to get better once they understand each others issues.

Otherhood

“Otherhood” is a original Netflix comedy film that also starts in the Mother’s Day. On this day, three suburban moms are away from their already grown up kids and together they talk about how much they miss them. Then, they three decided to go to New York and visit them in their apartments without telling their sons. During their stay, all the moms find out new things they didn’t know about the kids and it’s interesting to see how their relationship change and develop during the movie. 

Desperate Housewives

Another fun TV show to watch with your mom or with the family is the comedy-drama “Desperate Housewives”. With 8 seasons, this series is one of those you start and can’t stop watching. The story is set in the street Wisteria Lane and tells about the lives of a group of women and their families that live in this street. One neighborhood and friend of the women commits suicide and she’s the narrator of the story. The drama and mystery together with the comedy of the show makes it really interesting to watch.

I Don’t Know How She Does It

Starring Sarah Jessica Parker, the main character Kate, is a workaholic that travels a lot for work and is also mother of two kids, and she is trying to divide her working and parenting life. While she tries to balance the work and the family, she gets a big promotion which request her to make even more trips, being away from her husband and her children. With some many tasks to do, Kate has trouble doing everything without losing her mind. This film is perfect to watch with your mom especially if she is one of those who do multiple things at the same time.

Mamma Mia

The famous music romantic comedy “Mamma Mia” also shows a beautiful relationship between mom and daughter starred by Amanda Seyfried, that plays Sophie, and Meryl Streep, who plays Donna. It’s a fun film to watch with the family and to sing and laugh. The story is placed in an island in Greek during Sophie’s wedding. The girl invites three man who could be her father to her wedding without Donna knowing about it. Both Mamma Mia 1 and 2 are great movies that show the love between mom and daughter and are also funny and emotional movies.

Bad Moms

“Bad Moms” is an comedy film starred by Mila Kunis. Amy is a young mom of two kids that is tired of all the pressure of trying to be a good mom and having to deal with the obligations at work and at home. After divorcing her husband and having some time off while the kids are with the father, she makes two new friends that go through the same problems as her and she starts to hang out and have fun realizing she can be a good mom and still have some time for herself.

Mom

Debuted  in 2013, the TV comedy show “Mom” has already six seasons. It tells the story of Christ, a single mom that after dealing with alcoholism and drug abuse, decides to restart her life working as a waitress and attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. She lives with her mother Bonnie, who is also a recovering addict, with her daughter Violet, that was born when Christ was 17 and her younger son Roscoe. The series tells the story of this family in a funny and humorous way, showing the relationship and differences of the two moms. “Mom” has been renewed for the 7th and 8th season but there is still no date for the season 7 first episode.
