5 Best Ways to Keep That Summer Tan

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal Poly chapter.

We all know the struggle of working all summer for that tan and then once you get it —poof— summer is over. All those hard hours of laying in the warm sun on a beach somewhere have gone to waste. Here are 5 tips to keep that glow for as long as possible:

1. Lotion

Taking time to hydrate your skin will help keep that shine. Dry skin leads to peeling and flaking. Lather and pamper yourself with lotion day and night. Bonus points if it smells tropical!

2. Water

Water prolongs the life of cells. This means your skin won’t cycle out those tanned cells for new cells. Also, water is just important in general so you should always be drinking water. Always.

3. Exfoliate

Wait wait wait, hear me out. Exfoliating keeps your skin sleek and gets rid of unnecessary dead skin cells. It may seem counterproductive, but it leads right into the next tip.

4. Self-Tanner

Maybe she’s born with it or maybe… well, you know. Self-tanner is just a little white lie. Or is it a tan lie? We’ll get back to you on that one.

5. Eat Right

Eating food with beta-carotenes is thought to give your skin an orange glow. Sun tan from within y’all! Eat all the colors of the sunset for maximum tan.
