Underrated Things to Do at Disneyland

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal Lutheran chapter.

On July 17, 1955, visionary Walt Disney opened the Happiest Place on Earth to the public. Disneyland has a larger cumulative attendance than any other theme park in the world, with over 650 million guests since it opened. There is always something to do at Disneyland which is why your feet hurt and passing out instantly when you get home. People love the park and can’t seem to get enough of the magic. Some of the things about Disneyland seem to not get a lot of credit. Here are some underrated things to do at Disneyland!

1. Talking to Cast Members

Cast Members are people who work at the Disneyland Resort. From custodial to a character greeters, you will see them everywhere. They’re super friendly too! I’ve befriended a lot of cast members through social media. If you’ve known them long enough, they could give you a free entry! One time, I went through the Fastpass line with my friend who works at attractions. You can thank a Cast Member at City Hall which will give them special promotions and recognition!Photo by Kelly Garrett @kellymaycosplay

2. Riding one of the Main Street Vehicles

The Fire Engine, the Omnibus, the Horse-drawn streetcar, and the Horseless carriage are a faster way to get to the castle from the entrance of the park. It can save you a lot of energy from walking too. When the parks are decorated for their Holiday seasons such as Halloween and Christmas, it’s a special way to see the decorations from the vehicles.

3. People Watching

Disneyland is the home of many annual passholders that wear custom shirts, Disneybounds, and mouse ears that aren’t available at the parks. It’s always great to sit and relax a little bit after hours of walking. Seeing people with cool food from the parks will probably get you to eat too!Photo by Megan @disneybound.darling

4. Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes

This fun arm-workout at the park is only experienced during the day. It’s a good way to meet cast members as well. It’s an interactive attraction that’s always different every time. There’s even Instagram for the canoe guides called @gorgeouscanoeguides. Pocahontas will be impressed with your skills after you’ve rowed one of these!Photo by @gorgeouscanoeguides

5. Alcoholic Dole Whip Floats

A little treasure outside of the parks. If you are twenty-one or over, you could get this classic spiked treat at the coffee shop at the Disneyland Hotel. You could take a monorail from Tomorrowland to the entrance of the hotel. It’s spiked with a little bit of rum, so you can relax a little bit before coming back to the park. It closes at 4pm, so make sure you don’t miss this treat!

6. Meeting Characters

Adults still get starry-eyed over Chewbacca, Boba Fett, and even Groot. It’s such a fun way to see your favorite character you’ve admired as a child. It’s great for Instagram posts about your day. You could ask them questions and talk to them about your magical day!Photo by Emily Yoshida
