Her Campus Cal Lutheran: Why did you choose Cal Lutheran?

Taylor Nelson: I chose Cal Lutheran because of the small intimate campus as well as getting to know fellow peers and professors. I appreciate the academic rigor and religious opportunities the school provides.

HCCLU: Why did you decide to major in Criminal Justice and Chemistry?

TN: I want to go into forensics and the combined majors provide me with the opportunity to learn more about both aspects of the field.

HCCLU: Did your first semester of college meet your expectations?

TN: Yes, it did. In the sense that I was expecting an academic challenge, it was definitely an adjustment getting used to the college life.

HCCLU: What’s your favorite spot at Cal Lu?

TN: I like the Gazebo because it’s nice and peaceful.

HCCLU: What are you involved in on campus?

TN: Honors Program, Criminal Justice Student Association, Her Campus, and Fare Trade Club.

HCCLU: What do you like to do for fun?

TN: Hanging out with friends, watching Criminal Minds with my roommate, reading, running.

HCCLU: Where do you see yourself in ten years?

TN: I see myself working in the field of forensics either being a crime scene investigator, a forensic scientist, or a medical examiner. I would be interested in pursuing one of these careers and seeing myself being passionate about my line of work and being happy.

HCCLU: Who has been your biggest role model?

TN: Definitely Oprah Winfrey because she has inspired me tremendously. She opened a school in Africa for underprivileged girls and all these girls get to go there on scholarships. These girls have leadership qualities to make a difference in the world. She inspires me in her drive to make a difference in the world and she inspired me to complete a community service project of my own for underprivileged kids in India.

HCCLU: If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go? Why?

TN: Australia because one of my best friends lives there and I’ve always wanted to see her way of life. I would especially like to see the beautiful Reefs that she has told me about. I would also like to travel to India because I would really love to visit the school that I completed my community service project for and get to know the kids.
