When friends and family remember the stuff you say, your small quirks, and can even tell when you have had a bad day; these are small things that should never be left unappreciated.

Five Small Things That I Am Thankful For:

1. Conversations

I love talking with people, but something that I value a little more is building deep connections with people in my life. Spending quality time with someone face to face is a gesture that warms my heart because it gives people the ability to express themselves. Everyone has a story, so taking the time to hear what someone has gone through in their life adds a small piece to a huge puzzle of my life.

2. Good Morning Texts

I do not know about you, but I despise mornings. Droopy eyes, the cold feeling that fills my body after leaving my covers, and having to start my day (which are always long and tiring), is not something I love to look forward to every day. However, when a friend or my parents text me in the morning to let me know they are thinking of me, my mornings get a little easier to get through.

3. Night Drives with Friends

Windows down, music blasting, a golden hour sunset in the background, is my kind of drive. I wish I could frame all the mental pictures I have taken during these drives with my friends… There is truly nothing like a long car drive with the people I love most.

4. When Someone Sends Me a Song

Music means everything and more to me. My dad is a musician so ever since I was a little girl I have been constantly around good music. I understood what the value of a good song was to a person once I saw the way my parents danced and sung their hearts out to their favorite songs. Since then, I have done the same to all the songs I hold dearly to my heart. So when someone sends me a song to listen to, I take it very personally. I strongly believe that someone’s favorite song says a lot about their character and how they view the world.

5. “This Made Me Think of You”

Out of all the qualities that I am made up of, I believe the one quality that stands out the most is my outspokenness. I am passionate about a lot of things, and I am not afraid to share every detail about them. Vines, Tik Tok’s, tweets, and cheesy inspirational quotes are some of the small quirks that I carry in my heart. I could spend hours sharing with my friends about these things, and most of the time I can’t even tell if they’re listening or not. When my close friends send me a tweet or a picture of something that reminded them of me, it validates me that my friends are listening to me during my long tangents.

Thankful for the good and the bad, overall just thankful for the small things that result in exciting endings.

I am thankful for all the times my parents called me during my walks to class to check-in, my friends offering to buy me anything when they go to the store, and simply feeling comfort in my own home. When life gets crazy, it is easy to forget everyday gestures people do for you. This Thanksgiving, I am sharing my gratitude to those who are the reason why I do not forget that I am important. Make sure you thank those who have checked up on you, took care of you when you were sick, helped you with homework, or any other gestures that are important to you.
