An Open Letter to the Students at Admitted Student Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal Lutheran chapter.

Dear Admitted Student,

Today is the day you have been waiting for. You may be feeling nervous, excited, and a little afraid but don’t worry–I was too. With a clear mind and an open heart, you will not be disappointed by Cal Lutheran’s Admitted Student Day.

When you step foot onto CLU you will feel the overwhelming sense of excitement and school pride in the air, generated by engaged and energetic students awaiting your arrival. You will find your seat for the Welcome Ceremony, unsure of what to expect. During my visit, students came on stage and sang a beautiful a cappella version of “Home” by Phillip Phillips, leaving a teary-eyed audience feeling welcomed into the Cal Lutheran family. To this day, I tear up just thinking about it.

Be sure to visit the academic fair. You will have the chance to get a taste of the many majors CLU has to offer. I came to the school unsure if I wanted to major in Interdisciplinary Educational Studies or Communications but after having the opportunity to talk to the directors of each program, I was able to decide right then and there where I knew I belonged. Use this time to get a taste of your future and ultimately, a taste of your purpose. Visit as many places as you need and ask all the questions you can think of!

During lunch, you will have time to connect with the many families around you. Who knows, during this time you can make some friends and even meet your future roommate. Fun fact: On Admitted Student Day, I met my roommate who is now my best friend! That can happen to you, too, if you let it! Also, don’t worry about your parents embarrassing you by asking a thousand questions to everyone you meet. Give them this moment–they need it just as much as you do.

Up next is the fun stuff. You’ll have the opportunity to see all the amazing ways you can get involved on campus at the Involvement Fair. This is a perfect chance to discover clubs and activities that spark your interest, such as Adventure Club, Crafts Club, Young Life, and Her Campus Cal Lutheran – just to name a few. While you are there, take a look around you– there are so many current students in love with CLU who would love to help answer any questions you have!

You do not want to miss out on the Campus Tours, especially since you will be getting a preview of the Residence Halls! These tours will help you decide whether you want to live in Mount Clef, Pederson, Thompson, or South. Use this to your advantage because each Residence Hall is unique in its own way. I fell in love with Thompson as soon as I saw it–guess where I lived my first year? You got it right, Thompson! Get as much exposure to campus as you can. Discover what Cal Lutheran is all about.

At the end of our day, my family and I found ourselves in the Campus Book Store. We took at look at everything, from the awesome jackets and shirts, to the license plate frames and Gumby plush toys! Before we knew it, we were standing in line, waiting to purchase my very own Cal Lutheran jacket. After we checked out, my family looked at each other and we all knew that I had just made my decision. I was going to be a student at Cal Lutheran next fall. Soon after, we were in the Business Office making our first deposit–it was as official as it could be and I couldn’t have been any happier.

My experience at Admitted Students Day was life changing and I hope it will be for you too. If you could only take one thing away from this day, the Cal Lutheran Regals and Kingsmen (and Phillip Phillips) want you to remember: “Just know you’re not alone. I’m gonna make this place your home.”

What are you waiting for? Go enjoy Admitted Students Day and fall in love with this school, just like I did. We hope to see you next fall!

Much love,

Victoria – a Cal Lutheran Regal
