Whether you’re a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior in college, we all experience the realization that life comes at us faster than we want it to at some point. Although it’s hard to stay in the moment when deadlines and midterms creep up and we have to constantly stay prepared for the next assignment, I am now learning as a senior in college that deadlines and small failures do not matter in the grand scheme of things. Over the years, I have learned to adapt three habits that have helped me live in the moment!

1. Try to unplug around your friends

A fun thing to help practice this would be to challenge your friends the next time you go to dinner! Tell your friends to put their phone in the middle of the table until the end of dinner. This forces you to have conversations with your friends!

2. Journal in the morning!

With our phones being our most prized possession these days, our dependence on them causes us to miss special moments with the people around us. In order to create memories with your friends, I challenge you to put your phone down the next time you hang out with your friends!

I love journaling in the morning to start my day! Pulling out my journal first thing in the morning helps me stay in tune with my feelings, and helps me stay afloat throughout the day. I always start by writing about what I’m grateful for and my goals for the day. If I have plenty on my mind I usually like to write those emotions out so I can start my day fresh!

3. don’t miss your moment!

Don’t miss your moment with your friends and loved ones! If a friend asks you to go out for coffee, say yes! As college students, we are always going to have responsibilities, so make sure you make time for those who matter the most to you!

I hope these three tips helped you enjoy your time with friends a little more. Trust me, I’m nowhere near perfect when it comes to staying in the moment and making plans but I’m trying my best just like everyone else! Especially since it’s senior year, I want to make the best memories!
