Having been involved at Cal Lutheran since it was Cal Lutheran College, Tim Hengst has been involved in countless CLU areas, and is continuing to have a positive impact on students every day.

Her Campus Cal Lutheran: In what ways have you been involved at Cal Lutheran? (ALL of them!)

TH: Graduate from CLC in 1972 as an art major and starter at right tackle on the 1971 NAIA football championship team.Served on CLU sports Hall of Fame founding committee, Alumni Board and Board of Regents.Full time faculty since 2001 in Multimedia.Interim Dean of the College 2005-07.Executive Director of the Kingsmen Shakespeare Festival.Chair of the Faculty.Faculty mentor for CLU golf teams and women’s volleyball.Freshmen Seminar advisor.Member of the Victory Club.

HC: What is your favorite way you’re involved right now?

TH: Leadership role in faculty governance and mentoring the sports teams. I love athletics and enjoy sharing in student successes.

HC: What was your fondest memory while you went here?

TH: Winning the 1971 football national championship. The game was played on the old football field and televised in Southern California regional TV with Ross Porter announcing. They had to paint the grass green so that it looked good on TV.

HC: What do you consider your biggest accomplishment at Cal Lutheran?

TH: Graduating with honors as an art major and being accepted into graduate school at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine right out of CLC.

HC: What are some of your accomplishments outside of Cal Lutheran?

TH: Lifetime achievement award in medical illustration from the Association of Medical Illustrators in 2013.Received numerous awards in medical Illustration art shows from the Association of Medical Illustrators.Received several local art awards for my digital photo collages.Active in Thousand Oaks Kiwanis Club and served as President a while back.

HC: What is one thing a lot of people don’t know about you, but you think they should?

TH: Born and raised near Watts in south-central Los Angeles.

HC: Who is your biggest inspiration?

TH: God has to be number one, but my wife Jeanne comes in a close second!

HC: What are some of your hobbies?

TH: Making sushi, playing golf and racquetball and playing with my grandkids.

HC: What is your favorite sport?

TH: Pro Basketball with a close second, college football. Go Lakers! I still haven’t gotten over losing the LA Rams to St. Louis. I still have and LA Ram tie that I am keeping in case they come back…

HC: What is your favorite music?

TH: I like a lot of different genres, thank goodness for Pandora.

HC: What is your favorite movie?

TH: Lord of the Rings and Star Wars and Indiana Jones and Pirates of the Caribbean, and oh well, I guess I have too many favorites!

HC: What is your favorite quote?

TH: Life isn’t fair, deal with it.
