Five Tips For a Better and Quicker Morning Routine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal Lutheran chapter.

We’ve all been there; we stay up late studying or hanging out with friends, and are dreading the fact that we have to get up early to get ready for that 8 am class after getting almost no sleep.

It’s times like these that we crave even up to the last minute of extra sleep we can get, but we usually can’t indulge in those extra few minutes because we have so much to do to get ready for the day.

Here are five tips to speed up your morning routine that will allow you to get out the door in less of a rush, still looking and feeling fabulous!

Tip 1: Prepare your clothes the night before

Picking out your clothes the night before ensures that you’ll wake up knowing that your mind is made up for what you’re going to wear.

This alone can cut your time significantly since you won’t be so tempted to open up your dresser and stare at it blankly for ten minutes wondering what you’re going to wear.

Tip 2: Pack up!

Packing up your backpack and/or gym bag the night before is also an excellent way to get a head start in the morning.

You’re more likely to remember things you’re going to need in the day, such as your laptop charger and flash drive, if you make an effort to pack them up beforehand instead of waiting until the morning when you’re focused on multiple things at once.

Tip 3: Breakfast Prep

As we all know, breakfast is the most important meal of the day; yet many of us skip it because we just don’t have time to run to the dining hall or make something if we’re running late. Skipping breakfast because you’re in a rush to get to class isn’t the best way to start off your day.

Preparing simple breakfast meals the weekend before the hectic week starts is an excellent way to save time throughout the week.

All it takes is getting some small food storage containers or plastic snack bags and filling them with cereal or granola and dry fruit. You can make a bag for each day of the week and just grab them along with some yogurt to have a healthy breakfast on-the-go that isn’t a Pop-Tart or a soggy half baked waffle.

Tip 4: Shower with cold water

It sounds like torture but it actually works! If it isn’t freezing outside, and you are one of those people who absolutely has to shower in the morning, taking a shower with cold water will not only wake you up faster, it will also speed you up.

Showering with cold water instead of warm water makes one take faster showers simply because colder water is more unpleasant and therefore will force you to avoid taking your time.

Tip 5: Simplify your beauty routine

It is possible to look great and do it in a timely manner, all it takes is finding beauty products with multiple functions. For example, tinted CC face cream is an excellent option for getting moisturizer, spf, and a hint of color all in one step.

There are also options like a dual blush and lip color that you can find from many makeup brands.

Well, there you have it! Five tips to speed up your morning routine that can help save you time for some extra sleep and still allow you to get to class on time, feeling great for the rest of the day.
