If you are anything like me and you spend hours on Tiktok, you will probably have seen at least a few videos come on your FYP about the Call Her Daddy podcast. Whether it is the infamous “Uncut Gems” interview with Julia Fox from this past week or the Jamie Lynn Spears interview, Alex Cooper’s wildly successful podcast has made quite a few headlines recently. I personally have seen several Tiktoks recently about how Call Her Daddy should be canceled and many in the comments all seem to agree. Here is why I do not think Call Her Daddy should be canceled.

“Here is why I do not think Call Her Daddy should be canceled”

For those who have not heard of the Call her Daddy podcast, it was originally started by two women to talk about everything from college parties to dating, to sex. Now, one of the original duo- Alex Cooper- runs the podcast and is its self-proclaimed “Single Father.” Since Cooper became the sole creator behind Call Her Daddy, the podcast has switched from focusing on college party/hookup culture to discussing much more mature and diverse topics. Recently, Cooper has been bringing on a variety of special guests who have each brought a new discussion to the show. Cooper has interviewed therapists such as Esther Perel and Dr. Orna Guralnik about relationship issues and the benefits of couples therapy, as well as being open about her own personal experience with therapy. She has also brought on several public figures such as Pete Davidson, Alexis Ren, Emma Chamberlain, Mia Khalifa, and Tiffany Haddish to talk about various aspects of their experience in social media and the entertainment industry. My personal favorite episodes have been her interviews with Miley Cyrus, Olivia O’Brien, and Maggie Lindeman.

“Many people (myself included) find her advice to be helpful”

I hear all the time that the podcast is misogynistic and gives women unrealistic expectations for their romantic and sex lives, but personally, I think this is not true at all. I think people forget that everyone has a different view of what they would want in those areas. They might judge Cooper for giving tips that they do not agree with, but there are going to be other people who find those tips useful. I tend to see this sort of criticism when an influencer or some other sort of public figure is sharing tips such as how to shave your bikini line, or the kinds of waterproof makeup to wear during a hookup. People are quick to call out people such as Cooper for giving women unrealistic beauty standards to look up to or making them feel insecure about themselves as they navigate their sex lives. I, however, do not think they should look at advice this way because no one said they have to follow the advice or even listen to the podcast in the first place. Cooper puts out this sort of information based on what types of questions people DM her on Instagram and then she gives her own advice based on experience. If you do not want to shave or wear makeup, then that is totally fine, feel free to ignore her advice. But many people, myself included, find her advice to be helpful.

One negative aspect of social media is that it makes it easier for people to collectively decide to bash and cancel opinions that they do not agree with when all they have to do is not listen to this podcast if they do not like it. There are plenty of other podcasts that discuss similar topics, if they do not like Alex Cooper then they can listen to someone else. There is no need to cancel a podcast simply because not everyone likes what is said on that particular podcast.
