I absolutely love writing. It’s been a goal of mine to publish my own novel since I was in middle school. There are days where I come home and all I want to do is write and as soon as I sit down, I have no idea where to start. Writer’s block is difficult to tackle. Really the only way to get rid of it is to let it runs its course, but here are a few tips that I’ve found really help me to push through and get the creative juices flowing.

My first tip is to block out a small portion of your day to word dump. I know how weird this sounds, but it is so incredibly helpful. The hardest part of writing is just getting started. I spend about twenty minutes every day on my laptop writing down the random things that come to mind. Sometimes what I write makes absolutely no sense, but a lot of really great ideas can come from a simple brain dump.

Next, I suggest changing up your surroundings. I can’t work in my room. The second I see my bed, all thoughts of writing leave my head and all I want to do is go on my phone. It’s really helpful to get out and switch up my scenery. As hipster as it is, I really find coffee shops to be a great place to sit down and get work done.

Lastly, treat your self. Take a hot shower, put on a face mask, and light that overpriced candle I know you have. Taking care of yourself works wonders when it comes to productivity. I know I always get my best ideas in the shower. Writer’s block sucks, but I hope that these tips help. Now go out there and write!
