These Bodies Were Not Meant For Us

We’re not meant for these lives

We’re meant to be as wild as the flame

As loud as the wind during a storm

As graceful as a flowing river

Never resting in one place for too long

Always on the move

We’re supposed to be as bright as the moon

Glittering like the stars in the sky

So we can always see our way when we walk in our darkness

Alone or together

We’re supposed to be as strong as an ox

As sturdy as the old oak

As big as we need to be

So that we can reach out and brush our fingertips on the edge of the universe

We’re supposed to be dirty as the sheets after a long night

We’re supposed to be as clean as the priest’s robes on a Sunday morning

We’re supposed to be like a child always asking questions

Why, why, why

How, how, how

What, what, what

Our minds always open

Always expanding

We’re supposed to love like there is no tomorrow

And make sure everyone knows how much we love them

We’re supposed to scream like banshees at each other

Only to crash together like long-lost lovers at the end of each fight

We’re not supposed to be these static things that we are

I don’t believe that

We have a wild and unpredictable soul inside of us

Begging to be set free

Maybe we’re not meant to take over the world

Or touch everyone’s heart

But I’m willing to try if you are

With an affinity for iced coffee, blazers, and the worlds worst jokes, she calls herself a witty optomistic, which can be heavily reflected in her writing. Stoffel is a Chicago native looking forward to returning to the windy city post graduation.
