Fall in Lewisburg is undoubtedly one of our favorite times of year. Whether you’re spending your weekend away from Bucknell at home or at a friend’s house, it’s always important to strategically plan for the autumn holidays and events ahead! To ensure that you pack, bake, decorate and make the best out of your weekend at home, HC Bucknell has compiled a list of the top fall essentials that’ll hold you over until Thanksgiving break!

What to Pack: Fall Staples
Winter fracket

Fall in Lewisburg sometimes comes like a slap in the face. Take the time this weekend to scour your basement, attic, or local Goodwill for warm, used fleeces and heavy jackets. Make sure to pack at least two – you will thank yourself in the upcoming weekends when it’s too cold to wear a bodycon dress by itself!

Fall boots
It’s officially time to break out last year’s riding boots! Sift through your drawers to see if you can uncover any missing or forgotten tights and leggings. These pair perfectly with a long tunic or flannel for fall weekends!

Wool socks

These seemingly simple staples are essential for keeping out the cold weather. Wool socks are the perfect fall accessories when tucked into Bean Boots, ankle boots, or riding boots. They’re also great for lounging around your dorm room on chilly nights!

Halloween costumes circa 2005 (or before)
Think back to the Halloweens where parading around in Spiderman, Powerpuff Girls, or cobweb-laced witch dresses was the thing to do. Don’t hesitate to bring back these Halloween novelties to Bucknell – they might come in handy for Halloween 2013! (Also, don’t hesitate to pack your pumpkin-shaped trick-or-treat basket).

What to Bake: Autumn Goodies

Homemade baked goods

Although we’re showered with baked goods in the Caf and Bison, there’s nothing more comforting than homemade sweets. This weekend, take advantage of your kitchen by baking for Bucknell! If you decide that you don’t want to bake cookies quite yet, freeze some dough and bring it back to school in a freezer bag! Check out this great recipe for chocolate chip cookie dough and this mouthwatering pumpkin bread recipe! Don’t forget to pick up a pack of Apple Cider or Hot Chocolate K-Cups to compliment your freshly baked goodies!

What to Decorate: Halloween and Fall-Themed Décor

A mini pumpkin

Most of us don’t have enough room in our cars to bring an entire pumpkin patch back to Bucknell. Mini pumpkins are the perfect decoration for adding a little fall spirit to your dorm or common room. When you’re home, pick up a pumpkin painting kit for you and your friends. Plan a pumpkin decorating party for when you’re all back at Bucknell!

Cobwebs, spiders, and all things Halloween

Halloween only comes once a year. Take the time to pick up a slew of scary ghosts, goblins and spiders for your dorm or common room! Use this holiday to plan a decorating scheme for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and other celebrations for the rest of the year!

Most importantly, bring back a well-rested body and a stress-free mind! Use this break to relax from weeks of exams, papers and projects – you deserved it. Check out Sara Chuirazzi’s article on how to make the best of your fall break!
