It’s that time of year again.  Deck the halls, drink some eggnog, and most importantly, break out the ugly Christmas sweaters! We all secretly love these tacky monstrosities of Christmas spirit that we pick up from the local thrift store or our moms’ closets.  At Christmastime we bear the cold to attend an ugly sweater themed party and laugh at the most ridiculous compilations of yarn and felt.

But the joke doesn’t stop there. Ugly Christmas sweaters may seem to just be a wacky Christmas tradition, but they are actually influencing a new winter sweater trend found in many popular stores.  Fashionista.com reports 14 designer ugly Christmas sweaters, including ones made by Marc Jacobs and Stella McCartney, as well as those sold by Topshop, Urban Outfitters, and Net-a-Porter.com.  Free People also features a version of the ugly Christmas sweater for $198 on their website, in addition to some other highly priced Christmas-like sweaters. H&M offers more affordable, but equally cute sweaters on their website as well.

So this winter, don’t be afraid to let your secret love for ugly Christmas sweaters out.  No longer are these silly garbs designated only for the infamous Christmas party.  Pick up a more fashionable version at the mall, or grab a classic from your mother’s closet.  Either way, the fashion gods have given us the approval to be warm, cozy, and a full of Christmas spirit this winter.

What's up Collegiettes! I am so excited to be one half of the Campus Correspondent team for Bucknell's chapter of Her Campus along with the lovely Julia Shapiro.  I am currently a senior at Bucknell studying Creative Writing and Sociology.
Elizabeth is a senior at Bucknell University, majoring in English and Spanish. She was born and raised in Northern New Jersey, always with hopes of one day pursuing a career as a journalist. She worked for her high school paper and continues to work on Bucknell’s The Bucknellian as a senior writer. She has fervor for frosting, creamy delights, and all things baking, an affinity for classic rock music, is a collector of bumper stickers and postcards, and is addicted to Zoey Deschanel in New Girl. Elizabeth loves anything coffee flavored, the Spanish language, and the perfect snowfall. Her weakness? Brunch. See more of her work at www.elizabethbacharach.wordpress.com
