Tips On How to Find Your Perfect Date to Formals

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bucknell chapter.

It’s Formals time!  This special event is fast approaching for many of us sorority girls and the question of the hour is: who are you going to take?  For some of the daring girls, a crush or romantic interest is invited while for others, the friend route is the way to go.  For those of you who feel as though you have neither of these options—I’m sure you do, though—here are some options to help you find someone to bring!

  1. Football Game:  You may be thinking that going to a Bucknell football game and asking someone to your Formal might be embarrassing.  However, it is not a Bucknell football game that I am talking about.  We all receive the weekly traffic alert emails from Judy Mickanis.  Why don’t you put it to good use and actually attend one of the Lewisburg High School football games?  I’m sure there are plenty of single and eligible men (boys) that would be very willing to join you!  Plus, the perk of bringing a high-schooler is that there is no intimidation factor.  You’re older!  There’s no pressure and nothing to worry about.
  2. Late-Night MSD: Market Street Deli’s ability to lure in men of all types is a valuable tool for us ladies.  Go here any time after twelve on a Wednesday, Friday, or Saturday and you will be provided with a plethora of men to choose from—and a sandwich.  And if none of the Bucknell boys suit your fancy, try one of the workers.  I’m sure they’d love an excuse to skip out on one of their busy late night shifts, especially if it includes a cute girl.
  3. Hot Diggity Dogz: In my personal opinion, Hot Diggity attracts a much larger male demographic than MSD.  This allows you to have more options.  While you’re waiting for your dream man to walk through the door, perhaps you can stuff your face with a Bison Dog, which is a hot dog covered in more condiments than you ever thought imaginable.
  4. Movie Theater:  In this instance, the Selinsgrove Theatre is much better than the Campus Theater; although both could be a prime spot.  Be smart about this location, ladies.  Don’t camp out in your cutest outfits after the release of The Help.  Rather, go by genre.  If you’re into a tough guy, try waiting after Rise of the Planet of the Apes.  For someone sensitive, go see 50/50.  And for those of you who like a fun and playful man, I hear Puss in Boots is killing it at the box office.  Use this location to your advantage!  You’ll be able to figure out a man’s personality and style just by seeing what kind of movie he watched.  It’s a no-brainer.
  5. Friend From Home:  This option is especially useful for the girl who just cannot find a date.  In fact, this is probably the last resort.  Using this option means you really don’t have to invite anyone.  When everyone is getting all worked up about who they are bringing, you simply tell them you invited your “friend from home.”  They probably won’t even ask too much more about it, because they are so worried about finding their own date.  In fact, they may even be relieved that you aren’t stealing from their date pool.  When formals time actually comes, and you really didn’t invite anyone, panic.  He said he could definitely come!  It totally stinks.  People will feel so bad for you that they will find you a really hot and available date.  Success.

Hopefully these options provide you all with a little help when the time comes around to ask a man to your Formal or Date Party, if you want to, that is.  The most important thing to remember, though, is to be safe and have fun.  If there’s a good DJ, dance the night away with your girlfriends.  If there’s food, sit down with a snack to chat.  Remember, finding a boy to bring is not the most important part of your night, even if some say it is.  Now that you have this guide, all you have to do is find a dress!  Good luck!
