Startin’ Off With A Bang: New Music of 2014

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bucknell chapter.

There is nothing better than starting off a new year with new music. And while 2014 has only just begun, it’s already packed quite the punch with new artists comin’ in hot, fresh albums, and a whole lot of excitement for all things music.

Jetta

Big hair, big voice. So cool she only needs one name. Jetta is making a splash in her debut year. Actually, she’s starting a riot, which just so happens to be the name of her five song EP. Start a Riot is both powerful and emotional with a few up beat pop anthems and some heavy hitting ballads. “Feels Like Coming Home” sings of nostalgia and finding your place. We don’t know where you’ve been hiding Jetta, but it sounds like you’ve certainly found your place in the music world.

MisterWives

If this trio’s jams don’t make you want to dance around in your underwear, I don’t know what will. Head chick on vocals Mandy Lee is energetic, quirky and truly unique. The group’s six song EP Reflections is nothing short of addicting. If you at all like having fun or good music, these guys are definitely for you. Have a listen to “Twisted Tongue” and “Reflections.” You won’t regret it.

James Vincent McMorrow

Now this isn’t McMorrow’s first rodeo, but he’s taking 2014 by storm. Post Tropical, his album that just dropped a few weeks ago, is this artist’s first album in years. And man is it goood. Think of an Irish version of Bon Iver and you get James Vincent McMorrow. Melodic, soothing, and chilling. His lyrics are raw and thought-provoking that come from a true place of both pain and beauty. “Cavalier” and “Glacier” are not to be missed on this album.

Charlotte OC

Formerly known as Charlotte O’Connor, Charlotte OC is taking advantage of a new year to reinvent herself and hit the scene with a new identity. Her new future looks bright.  While her EP “Colour My Heart” only has four songs, each one is more striking than the last. The girl’s got bold bangs and passionate lyrics that make you want to grab your hairbrush and belt out your angst in the mirror. “Colour My Heart” and “Stolen Car” are true high points for this artist’s newest collection of tunes.
