Sofia with an F is a new podcast made by ex-Call Her Daddy co-host Sofia Franklyn. How did we get here? Well, it all goes back to the beginning of the quarantine. For multiple weeks our favorite podcast Call Her Daddy went off the air. Before they went off the air, they left breadcrumbs in their podcast titles such as “It’s over”, “We Had Fun”, “The s**** show”, and, in general, everyone was very very confused. Then the President of Barstool, Dave Portnoy on May 17th, dropped an episode of Call Her Daddy titled “Daddy Speaks”. I’ll let you go listen to it yourselves but it basically details his take on the whole situation. He details how Call Her Daddy went off the air because they were in the midst of contract negotiations, which were not going well because Sofia Franklyn refused to accept any of Barstool’s terms. In the episode, Portnoy discusses his desire to allow current Call Her Daddy host Alexandra Cooper, do the podcast by herself and renegotiate only her contract. Alexandra Cooper then posted a youtube video titled “The Truth about Call Her Daddy” in which she expresses how frustrated she was that Franklyn would not renegotiate the terms of her contract, how Sofia ditched their friendship for her relationship with former HBO executive Peter Nelson, and how she feels she deserves to run the podcast by herself because she did all of the editing and social media work.

In the first episode of Sofia with an F, Sofia gives her side. She expresses frustration at how her best friend allowed Barstool and the world to trash her reputation without doing anything. She exposes Cooper for using a script during episodes and says that editing was “the least Cooper could do if she was reading off a script” and that Cooper “measures her worth in editing hours” She also asserts that a man would have never been judged for requesting a contract negotiation and that the defamation of her reputation was sexist. Later in the episode, she discusses the pressures of deciding whether she wants marriage and pregnancy as a 28-year-old, her shoplifting past, and what it was like having an immigrant mother. After she posted the episode, Dave Portnoy posted a tik-tok in which he called Sofia a “victim who never takes responsibility for her actions” and said once again that “the truth is on his side”. At the time I am typing this, we have not heard anything from Cooper about Sofia’s new podcast, even though she has posted some Instagram stories with her best friend Lauren (who is now Sofia’s ex-friend).

Social media seems conflicted about how they feel about Sofia with an F. There have been some really nice and supportive comments directed towards Sofia, however, these same people bashed her after she left Call Her Daddy. There have been some influencers reaching out to support Sofia. There have been people commenting that they are still on Alex’s side or that they will always trust Portnoy. But, it is unnecessary to pick a side or pit two women against each other. Since none of us were there, none of us know the full story. We only know what Alex, Sofia, Dave, and other Barstool employees have been telling us. There is no problem in supporting them both, separately, and listening to both podcasts if you like both or just one if you don’t like both. What is not good, is the trend of supporting whoever is popular at the time and bashing whoever is not popular and then switching sides when it’s convenient. Let’s be nice online. To everyone.
