Red Carpet Recap: The Grammy’s, SAGs, and Golden Globes

By: Emily Jones

It’s awards season, which means that girls across American are gathering in front of their TVs for hours and tuning to E!, watching celebrities walk down the red carpet, with feelings of envy for some dresses and horror for the not-so-chic choices of others.  I am definitely guilty of maybe turning off the TV once the awards actually start, because for me, the fashion is such a significant part of the awards.  Whose stylist got a ten out of ten and whose is going to be yelled at when they’re butchered on Fashion Police?  In case you missed the red carpets of the Grammy’s, SAG Awards, and Golden Globes, here is a recap on the best and worst fashion.

Golden Globes

Best Dressed:

Lupita Nyong’o

My favorite look of the night was Lupita Nyong’o, who looked stunning in this Ralph Lauren caped gown.  The red is a flawless shade and the dress is a simple, sophisticated look, including an off the shoulder neckline which I love.

Olivia Wilde

The pregnant actress rocked gorgeous, emerald green, long-sleeve gown by Gucci Premiere, pairing it with minimalist jewelry.  Although the metallic crystals are flashy, it’s another sophisticated look that has a 20’s vibe, along with the long sleeves that compliment the gown well.

Naomi Watts

The British actress looked stunning in this silver Tom Ford dress.  Similarly, this has the flashy and sequined 20’s vibe, while the halter neckline gives it a modern touch.  Also, the chunky gold neckline adds even more glamour to this classy gown.

Michelle Dockery

The Downton Abbey shined in this flattering Oscar de la Renta gown.  The gold embroidery is beautiful against the neutral-brown color of the dress, and the high-low hemline makes it even more unique, giving us a glimpse of her Christian Louboutin heels.

And now for the red carpet misses:

Heidi Klum

Drew Barrymore

Sandra Bullock

Zoe Saldana

The Grammy’s

Best Dressed:

Taylor Swift

Thought I do get bored of Taylor Swift’s usual sparkly or sequin dress, this chain metal Gucci gown is stunning and looks extremely flattering on her body type.  The sleeve and neckline are beautiful and a great contrast against the rest of the gown.  Her updo and silver makeup was a perfect choice to pull the entire outfit together.

Giuliana Rancic

Giuliana Rancic looked incredible in this orange Alex Perry.  Again, I’m in love with this flattering, yet simple neckline on her. The sheer lace top, trimmed in white, is the perfect combination with the beautiful orange coloring.

Anna Kendrick

This strapless Azzaro dress is the combination of class and edge.  The beading at the top of the dress is delicate and feminine, yet the slit at the bottom of the dress and the openings at the top of the dress add more edge and trendiness to the dress.  It’s totally age appropriate as well.

Chrissy Teigen

My favorite of the night has to go to Chrissy Teigen in Johanna Johnson.  The gold and silver beading is stunning against her tan complexion and the plunging neckline is trendy and fun.  This chic outfit was a perfect fit for the event.

The Misses

Nicki Minaj

Katy Perry

Nadeea Volianova

The SAG Awards

Amy Adams

My favorite look of the night goes to the American Hustle actress, who looked spectacular in this beautiful cobalt blue Antonio Berardi dress.  While her hairstyle and makeup was retro, the cutouts of her dress add a modern touch.  An embellished, silver belt highlighted her waistline and added a lovely little sparkle to the look.

Sofia Vergara

The Modern Family actress always takes top spots on the best-dressed lists of award shows.  Sofia was stunning in a formfitting Donna Karan Atelier gown covered in silver sequins.  Her look was completely glam, and the sequin style is a fashion staple of hers.

Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita Nyong’o is an up and coming starlet who is stunning on the red carpet. She is rocking the bright colors, and that was evident last night when she wore this electric blue Gucci gown and Fred Leighton jewels.  The flowering detail is different, unique and delicate.

Emilia Clarke

Emilia Clarke looked beautiful in this Calvin Klein Collection sequin dress.  The one shoulder adds a great feminine touch and the beading and coloring is glamorous and retro.  Also, her hairstyle shows off her one shoulder style.

Misses

Kerry Washington

Cate Blanchett

Mayim Bialik
