Polished: Springtime Favorites

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bucknell chapter.
Springtime calls for new clothes—bright, light and airy—and new trends.  But as not much of a trendsetter myself, I stick to broadening my fashion horizons through my nail polish.  I’ll admit, I have quite a nail polish fetish, collecting every season’s new colors in mass quantity and splurging on brands from Essie to OPI to Deborah Lippman (even Revlon has some great, inexpensive buys as well!).  Nevertheless, what I must focus on here are my absolute to-die-for spring nail colors.

The first of my springtime favorites is Barefoot in Blue.  Essie partnered with TOMS to support the One Day Without Shoes campaign.  Not only is this polish the perfectly delicate springtime blue, but it also has a great cause: supporting those children in need.  I like to think of this polish as the perfectly subtle introduction into bright and light springtime lacquer. Coming from the dark hues of winter, Barefoot in Blue is the ideal introduction to your springtime gear and sunny mood.

I have to give Essie another set of praise for their Pure Pearlfection polish.  Described as “decadent iridescence,” this color adds the flawless finish to a banal polish.  I am a creature of habit, always crawling back to my light pink Ballet Slippers (Essie) or It’s a Girl (OPI), but sometimes I am not entirely satisfied with these soft hues.  So, I top off my manicure with a coat of Pure Pealfection, giving my nails that extra shimmer I all-too-often avoid.

I have never been to Texas, but that doesn’t mean I can pretend with OPI’s fabulous Do You Think I’m Tex-y.  This color is an ideal combination of hot pink and purple, but it’s toned down enough that even I feel comfortable wearing it on my nails.  It creates the absolute perfect end-of-spring manicure, welcoming the season with a hot summer hue (or as OPI calls it, a “sobert-like” shade).  So pretend you’re Texan eating the perfect raspberry sorbet on a hot spring day with this color decorating your nails.

Just because ‘tis the season of brights does not mean that you can’t be chic with this Deborah Lippman DayTripper perfect pink.  It may not scream, “look at me” or fit into the go-neon trend, but DayTripper is an ideal “pink melon mélange.”  It will accentuate your early spring tan while keeping it classy in a timeless pink shade.  Deborah Lippman outdoes herself again by making a usually trite shade fun, flirty, and fabulous for spring!

Since it is the time of year to access your inner 80s goddess with neon, brights, and bold statement colors, go all out Lauper-style with Girls Just Want to Have Fun by Deborah Lippman.  This color is described as “carefree coral,” but I think of it more as the optimal spring introduction to this summer’s neon overload.  To me, this color will make the perfect manicure on a sunny, warm day when you’re eagerly awaiting summer.  Trust me, it’ll inspire you to work…summer is close enough!

Feeling stressed as the workload piles on?  Take a quick break to try out some of these colors; you won’t regret it.  Trust me, once your nails look that stellar, you’ll do your work just to be able to stare endlessly at your perfect manicure!
