Ahhh, House Party. There’s no other Bucknell weekend quite like it. To me, House Party is one big spring fashion show. You know you’re bound to be tagged in an infinite number of Instagram pictures from the weekend. With festivities happening all day and night, it’s essential to look your best at all times…even when things do get a little rowdy. Below are some House Party Weekend fashion tips so you don’t have to worry about making a faux pas while Super Saturday-ing or dancing your heart out at SPE. The only worry on your mind should be how exhausted you’ll be come Sunday…

FOR DAY:

o   Edgy Girly-Girl: There’s nothing I love more than a slouchy pair of denim shorts. Wear your favorite pair (or boyfriend jeans if it’s cold) with a flowy lace or embroidered tank and combat boots to toughen up the look. This unexpected combination will be sure to catch a guy’s eye even from across the backyard!

o   Sundress Season: At Bucknell, nothing says House Party like the start of “Sundress Season.” Instead of the typical sundress-and-jean-jacket combo, try a denim or cargo vest over a floral-print dress. Pair with boots or gladiator sandals for a boho-chic vibe. Alternatively, try a breezy maxi dress and load up on bangles, funky earrings, and lots of necklaces to personalize the look.

o   Fun with Floral: Printed jeans are a major trend this season, so pair floral skinny jeans with a military jacket, plain t-shirt, and a funky necklace for a super adorable, springtime look. It’s casual and comfortable enough for day, but looks polished enough for some serious socializing.

o   Preppy ‘n Bright: I love colored denim; it’s possibly my favorite springtime trend since it’s pretty uncharacteristic of any other fashion season. Pair colored jeans rolled at the ankle with a crochet sweater or tank, oxfords, and cool accessories. This preppy, easygoing outfit will feel comfortable but will look totally put together for daytime fun!

FOR NIGHT:

o   Black is ALWAYS the New Black: My go-to nighttime color? Black. It’s timeless, chic, and flattering on anyone. For House Party nighttime festivities, pair a black sheer tank with a statement necklace and dark skinny jeans for an easy, polished look. The statement necklace can double as an interesting conversation starter!

o   If It’s Neon, It SHOULD Be On: Nothing says springtime more than bright, bold colors. For night, pair a neon top with black skinny jeans and fun earrings for an eye-catching outfit that’s sure to make you the life of the party!

o   Bling Bling: Accessorizing is always a must, but when is enough, enough? Never! Wear a plain crop-top with black shorts or dark skinny jeans and accessorize, accessorize, accessorize! Load bangles onto one wrist, layer long necklaces over your top, and finish the look with statement earrings to dress up an otherwise plain ensemble.

o   Not Your Normal “Tight Skirt” Outfit: It’s super typical (and functional!) to wear a tight tube skirt to a frat house, but here’s a way to wear the look without it feeling “been there, done that.” Pair a plain tube skirt with a long, sheer tank blouse and a bandeau top underneath. Rather than the typical crop top, the sheer blouse is sexy and lightweight, perfect for dancing the night away!

With a weekend as crazy as House Party, fashion should be the least of your worries. Take my tips to help you plan for the marathon of a weekend ahead…and may the odds be ever in your fabulous favor!

After serving as Campus Correspondent at Bucknell University, she is so excited to continue being a part of the Her Campus team! Besides traversing the city and trying to figure out what being a "real person" really means, Sarah loves long walks on the beach, sipping pina coladas, and getting caught in the rain (kidding!). Real favorites include traveling, writing, kickboxing, and making up ridiculous lyrics to the latest songs. She absolutely loves anything that involves cupcakes, butterflies, glitter, and anything Parisian and specializes in baking with far too much chocolate and obsessively watching shows bound to be cancelled after the first season. Though the long term path for this post-grad collegiette remains unclear, she's looking forward to all the new 20-something adventures that await her!
