Healthy Habits: Back to College Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bucknell chapter.

Going back to school is a big transition, especially after a long summer. With change comes a period of  adjustment to new schedules and responsibilities. Although sometimes change is difficult, it is important to make time for taking care of your mental and physical health!  Here are some tips that can help as you go back to school this fall:

  1. Get a friend on board.

It’s a lot easier to press pause on Netflix and get going to the gym if you have your friend(s) doing it with you.  Gather a couple of people to help motivate you to go on a run, take a fun fitness class, etc. Pick a certain time where you’re all available so you can make this a part of your weekly routine.

2. Change it up.

Going on the elliptical every day gets boring really fast.  Try doing different machines or different types of weight equipment.  Doing various kinds of activities for short intervals of time can be really beneficial, and can definitely make going to the gym more bearable.

3. Make a good playlist.

There’s nothing like having some great pump-up music during a workout.  Blasting some of your favorite songs will help get you energized and make your workout go by a little faster!

4. Try a class.

Can’t seem to motivate yourself to stay at the gym?  Take a class!  You don’t have to make up your own workout and you know that you’ll be there for a respectable amount of time.  Also, it’s a great way to try out different types of activities, such as Zumba, yoga, spin, barre and so much more!

5. Get outside.

Fall is a great time to explore.  Try going on a walk or run outside to escape the gym!  It’s an easy way to enjoy your workout and experience a nice change of scenery.

6. Make time for yourself.

The key here is to set aside a certain time every day where you can do something good for your body.  Not only will exercising benefit you physically, but it can really improve your mental health too. It’s very easy to get caught up in classes, so making your fitness a priority is one way to break away from stress.
