Food Fashion: What’s on Your Plate?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bucknell chapter.

It’s common knowledge that the best parts of Thanksgiving are food, family, and friends. However, our generation is at a point where enjoying these fundamental aspects of the holiday is not quite enough – everyone else has to enjoy it, too! After spending hours preparing for Thanksgiving, it seems reasonable to reap the likes that we deserve. So, embrace your inner (food) stylist and create the perfect poultry-inspired post for your hungry followers. Trust us, this Turkey Day you’ll be thankful for your insta-fame.

Level One: Turkey

This is what everyone is expecting on their feeds on this Thanksgiving – so if you’re going to throw a filter on our favorite bird, it had better be an incredible photo. Bird’s eye views (no pun intended) usually look tidier and keep the meat from looking strange because they’re not as close up and you can’t see the shape of the bird quite as well.

Level Two: Desserts

We’re still talking food items, so getting likes on dessert posts is almost as competitive as posting a turkey. But, because sweets are typically cuter than, ehm, dead birds, you can be a little more at ease. No need to panic when you have brightness and contrast on your side! Pump up the color, make sure everyone knows how creative and crafty you are when it comes to baking. Volume is key: three cookies look better than one. The more the merrier, right?

Level 3: Pets and Boyfriends

Okay, it sounds strange to group these together, but hang in there for an explanation. Usually accompanied by captions such as, “SO thankful to be back with this one!”, cute animals and boys are always popular. Seriously, how can you not love that face? Our advice: try to not use the above caption; we’ve seen it hundreds of times. Say something specific you’re thankful for instead – the mushy-gushy-ness will definitely produce a few likes (and maybe tears).

Level 4: Stuff You Did

Being away from Lewisburg often inspires us to get adventurous. Whether that means running a turkey trot, doing community service, or taking a spontaneous trip to NYC with family, it’s the unique things that make this vacation memorable. Thanksgiving is about being grateful for what you have; embracing your own personal experiences is by far the best way to do that. And hey, you might not even need a filter!
