It’s nothing but hot, hot, HOT in Lewisburg, especially with the start of a new school year approaching. “Welcome back” means welcoming fresh fashion, new styles, and a chance to reinvent your look. I am super excited for this school year and hope that you all are too, especially since I did some serious wardrobe updating over the summer (I’m sure most of you did, too!) Here is a day-to-day guide for the next week to stay (and more importantly look) cool through these hot days of August. These next few days will be filled with making tons of first impressions, so looking fabulous while doing so is a must!
Sunday, August 19: Partly cloudy and a high of 79 degrees. In these few days before classes begin, it’s always nice to look cute while reconnecting with friends back on campus. Pairing a classic pair of rolled jean shorts with a silk or cotton sleeveless shirt and flats or sandals is a great go-to outfit; you’ll look relaxed and comfortable when welcoming your college buds back to the Buck!
Monday, August 20: Partly cloudy and a high of 78 degrees. Similar in temperature to yesterday, today could be a great day for seeing friends while moving into your dorm or relaxing on campus before classes begin. It’s all about “polished casual,” so pairing a brightly colored pair of chino shorts with a plain tee and flats adds a pop of color and will brighten anyone’s day. To take it a step further, add a lightweight scarf for some extra flair.
Tuesday, August 21: Mostly sunny and a high of 82 degrees. Today is a great day to run downtown for last-minute items from CVS or to pick up your books before classes begin tomorrow. As always, continuing to look cute is important since upperclassmen are primarily moving in on this day! For a functional yet noticeable outfit, I suggest wearing a solid-colored sundress and leather belt with a cute pair of sandals; it’s lightweight, easy to move around in, and looks adorable. Adding fun jewelry like bright stud earrings or a long necklace takes this outfit up a notch!
Wednesday, August 22: Partly cloudy and a high of 83 degrees. Hello first day of classes!! My approach to any back-to-school outfit is “classy yet understated”: you want to look nice and fresh, but not like you tried too hard to achieve your look. Also, it’s all about looking appropriate in front of professors and approachable in front of classmates! I’ll most likely go for something along the lines of a pair of beige or lavender jeans, cognac flats, and a crisp white tee with stud earrings, an armful of bracelets, and two layered necklaces. This look lets me express myself while still looking relaxed. Like me, I encourage you all to start with the basics then build on them with accessories to create the perfect classroom outfit!
Thursday, August 23: Partly cloudy and a high of 84 degrees. On the second day of classes, people have already made their first impressions of you, so surprise them by wearing something bold! I suggest a maxi skirt paired with a lightweight scarf, plain tank, sandals and a leather belt; it’s funky, noticeable, yet casual enough for class time…always important to keep in mind! Try a top knot (bun directly on top of your head) hairstyle to limit the amount of fussing with your locks!
Friday, August 24: Partly cloudy and a high of 83. Since it’s been a pretty hot week so far and the heat only continues today, wearing a lightweight tank tucked into chino shorts is a great outfit choice to make. It’s comfortable, light, yet still looks polished. Add a cute cuff or a long necklace to spice it up a bit!
Saturday, August 25: Sunny and a high of 81 degrees. The first weekend back at Bucknell is bound to be a great one, especially with a beautiful sunny day! Break out a printed sundress, the Ray-Bans, and your Jack Rogers for a classic Bucknell look that always scores high on the cuteness factor. However, if you want something a bit different from the norm, I suggest going for a flowy tank paired with cropped jeans and sandals since this outfit still looks relaxed and is comfortable enough for a perfect Saturday.
I wish you all the best of luck with your new classes and hope these outfits will make you feel more confident when meeting new friends. Remember, the beginning of a new year is the chance to try new things, so never be afraid to experiment with looks you’ve seen but have been too scared to try (I’m looking to rock a denim vest Jessica Alba-style with colored jeans, flats, and a scarf). Cheers to a new year and a new, fashionable you!
XX,
Jen Lassen
