Dressing For the Winter Chill

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bucknell chapter.

Walking across the quad mid-January doesn’t usually inspire one’s most creative outfit selection.  But with cozy sweaters, tall boots, and a plethora of accessories, fashion and Mother Nature can meet in harmony.

Layer

On those days that hit the teens, one sweater might not cut it.  Try layering a sweater over a longer shirt and maybe even double up on jackets.  Multiple layers make for a more interesting outfit and keep you from shivering on your way to class.

Scarves and Hats

Like layers, a chunky scarf or beanie keeps you toasty while adding different textures and colors to your outfit.  Plus, when the over-heated buildings have you sweating, scarves and hats are easily removable.

Thick Socks

It seems simple, but socks double as both a practicable and aesthetic part of any outfit.  Since heat escapes through the feet, the warmer your socks the better.  Try tucking thick, patterned socks into short boots, so they stick out as part of your outfit, or on a warmer day, knee-highs can be paired with a short dress or skirt.

Oversized Everything

In the cold, putting on anything tailored or tight seems highly uncomfortable.  Make chunky sweaters, oversized tees and comfy joggers your winter staples.  Long sweaters under jackets, or a loose top with leggings are comfortable ways to stay warm and easy to layer.
