We all need a little “me time” every now and then, but living in Lewisburg limits our choices in terms of pampering ourselves. Advanced Skin Care and Spa is a great option when you need a facial, but it’s a bit pricey. Have no fear, there is a simple solution to this dilemma — make your own spa right on campus!

 

1. Oatmeal Yogurt Mud Mask

The yogurt in the mask is high in zinc, which minimizes the reappearance of blemishes and reduces the size of your pores. It also acts as a natural moisturizer that makes skin soft to the touch. On the other hand, the oatmeal acts as a natural exfoliator — as you rub off the mask with your washcloth, the oatmeal allows you to gently scrub off your dead skin cells. The honey works to retain the moisture in your skin and keep it well hydrated. Darker honeys contain more antioxidants that help protect the skin from the sun and sometimes even reverse some effects of sun damage. Who knew all of these foods could be so good for your complexion?

Prep Time: 3 minutes

Total Time: 13 minutes

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon of oatmeal

1 tablespoon of plain non-fat organic yogurt

1/2 teaspoon of honey

  1. Crush the oatmeal in a small bowl and mix in the plain non-fat organic yogurt.
  2. Zap the honey in the microwave so that it is warm and then add to the oatmeal/yogurt mix.
  3. Apply evenly across your face and leave on for ten minutes.
  4. Gently rub off the mask with a warm washcloth and apply a facial moisturizer.

 

2. Egg Yolk Hair Mask

Egg yolks make hair softer, smoother, and silkier to the touch. They also help strengthen your hair and stop breakage. So let your new, beautiful hair down next time you head downtown! 

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 40 minutes

Ingredients:

2 egg yolks

1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil

1 cup of water

  1. Whisk together the two egg yolks, the extra virgin olive oil, and the water in a bowl.
  2. Pour the mixture into a pot and heat on the stove while continually stirring until the mixture is warm (then, pour the mixture back into the bowl).
  3. Take a shower and wash your hair thoroughly with shampoo.
  4. After the shower, dunk your fingers in the mixture and run your fingers through your hair. Repeat as necessary to cover all of your hair. (Warning: avoid rubbing close to the scalp as this can sometimes make your hair look greasy.)
  5. After you have applied the mixture, allow your hair to dry for thirty minutes or until lightly damp.
  6. Blow-dry your hair fully and straighten if necessary! (NOTE: you may not use up all of the mix!)

 

3. Sugar Lip Scrub

The sugar in the scrub is a natural exfoliator that removes dead skin off of your lips while the honey, olive oil, and shea butter are moisturizers that can heal chapped, cracked lips. This scrub will get you through the rest of the cold, dry season and even better, will make your lips soft and super kissable.

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 8 minutes

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon of sugar

1 tablespoon of honey

1 teaspoon of olive oil

1 teaspoon of shea butter

  1. Mix together the honey and sugar in a small bowl.
  2. Add in the olive oil and stir.
  3. Heat up the shea butter in the microwave until soft. Then add it to the mixture and blend all together.
  4. Take a dime-sized scoop and rub all over your lips.
  5. Allow two minutes for some of the sugar to dissolve.
  6. Rinse the scrub off your lips with warm water.
  7. Apply lip balm.
