Comfortable Pants That Aren’t Sweatpants

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bucknell chapter.

If diamonds are a girl’s best friend, then sweatpants are her soulmate. Nothing can compete with a solid pair of sweatpants – they’re cozy, liberating and incredibly functional. From arduous treks across campus to late nights sitting cross-legged with box of Domino’s, sweatpants (literally) make the perfect pair.

But, like all lovers, they’re not entirely perfect. On days when you need to look polished and put-together, those baggy, made-to-stay-at-home sweats with the name of your high school printed down the side simply aren’t going to cut it. Luckily, you don’t always have to sacrifice style for comfort. Brands are becoming increasingly experimental when it comes to pant silhouettes. It’s no longer all about skinny jeans; flare cuts are becoming just as popular as body-hugging figures, and billowy fabrics are taking precedent over super stiff denim. Therefore, it is possible to retain that effortless, lazy day feeling and still look like a total trendsetter in the process.

Long story short: if you’re looking to ditch the jeggings this fall for some comfier alternatives, here’s how:

Joggers

Perhaps the most related to actual sweatpants, joggers cinch at the waist and ankles, giving your legs tons of wiggle room. The great thing about joggers is that they come in all sorts of colors and prints. But, if you’re scared of looking like you’re wearing pajama pants, you can try a pair that’s made out of a sturdier fabric, like cargo or faux leather.

Culottes If trousers and midi skirts had a baby, culottes would be the love child. Starting at the waist and flaring out to about mid-calf length, culottes are for those who are looking to take their wardrobe game (and comfort game) to a whole new level. Denim culottes are bound to make a statement, but if you’re seeking out maximum comfort, a soft and flowy pair is the way to go.

Track pants with a cigarette fit will allow you to move comfortably while still looking sleek and streamlined. This sporty staple can be the centerpiece of an athleisure-inspired look, or you could pair it with some dressier pieces to give the pants a fresh and unexpected twist.

With a high waistline and just the right amount of slouch, the Mom Jean trend is perfect for those who can’t stand the thought of wriggling into a pair of skinnies first thing in the morning. The vintage feel will keep you looking cool, but the fit will leave you comfy all day long. If Mom jeans aren’t you’re style, consider other variations, like boyfriend/girlfriend jeans.

What's up Collegiettes! I am so excited to be one half of the Campus Correspondent team for Bucknell's chapter of Her Campus along with the lovely Julia Shapiro.  I am currently a senior at Bucknell studying Creative Writing and Sociology.
