For those of you who don’t know, the famous Aly Raisman is coming to Bucknell very soon! Here are some details you should know for the upcoming event, including event details as well as facts about Aly.

Who? Aly Raisman is a 24 year old American who is the second most decorated gymnast of all time with 1 gold medal, 3 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals from the two Olympics she attended. Apart from gymnastics, Aly has been a part of UNICEF as a brand ambassador, and placed fourth place during season 16 of Dancing with the Stars. She is also a great supporter in the #MeToo movement as she is one of many gymnasts who has been sexually abused by USA gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar, and bravely talks about it in her autobiography book, “Fierce”.

What? Thanks to the Bucknell Student Lectureship Committee, Aly will be coming to Bucknell to talk to the students, likely about her gymnastics experience and coming out to admit about Nassar’s abuse. Tickets are free (2 per person) and are available on April 1st from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Where? Aly Raisman will be at the Weis Center for the Performing Arts to talk to us.

Raisman was born in Needham, Massachussetts on May 25, 1994. She earned her Olympic medals at the 2012 London Olympics and the 2016 Rio Olympics.

When? Aly will talk to us on April 2nd at 6 PM.

She has played a vital role in USA gymnastics as she was the captain of the U.S’s “Fierce Five” team at the 2012 Olympics as well as the “Final Five” team at the 2016 Olympics where both times, the U.S. women’s gymnastic team achieved first place. After the 2016 Olympics, she started working on her autobiography, “Fierce” which released November 14th, 2017. Days before the release, she publicizes about Larry Nassar’s actions he committed when she was just 15 years old.

Why? Raisman has admitted that it is her dream that everyone understands what #MeToo means and so people will be educated in knowing how to protect themselves from predators so that no one else will have to say “Me too.” Aly truly believes in the importance of education as she always tried to balance academics and gymnastics and attended her town high school and later on Babson College. She hopes to impact others by her talking through her own experiences.
